We used to take the kids to this cafe in Grasmere on the very rare occasions we had a day off from milking.
To access the cafe you had to go through a toy shop & into the back. We always used to buy our poor deprived holiday children some little thing they fancied to make up.
Not that they were bothered but I had been brought up with an annual holiday & felt my children missed out.
Cathy was very proud to say she was going on her first holiday with Dad & Mum when we went to NZ in 2004 is & the second time this Christmas!
Three good things:
1. Currys....they rang us this morning at 9am to give us half an hour warning before the freezer was delivered.... invaluable !
2. Harry is scouring the potato field at this moment & on his third bag I see, picking up all the potatoes the machine has left behind. Going to be very expensive this year!
3.I found some chocolate mint creams in the old freezer when I transferred stuff into the new....later, yummy!!
Gorgeous setting for this delightful cafe. So glad that you and Harry have the time to enjoy lunch here now without the demands of dairy farming. And I have a feeling that your children were very well endowed with the things that really count...loving, responsible parents for starters. :)
Yum...what a lovely cafe.....how lovely to have days out.....isn't that just the best thing after so many years being tied to work!! Oh so understand the children thing and all the rest but they were always so happy...so?!
@peggysirk@fannyb Oh I think you are both so right really, farming is a great life & all that open air & countryside too. but I think they missed seeing places not for the rest but the experience. Luckily since then two have flown to the other side of the world & Cathy has a husband who loves holidays so she has made up for lost time. Now I have to persuade the husband to go away as he is still not keen & would far rather be at home but is excited about the upcoming trip.
We are definitely enjoying our free time now. Isn't it good to chat?
Oh lovely Autumn shot. Just laughing about Cathy getting her first family holiday in 2004 - they obviously fhad other compensations for lack of travel as they don't seem too damaged! And good to know you won't be going hungry now Harry's been pro-active. What annoys me is that it's cheaper to buy a 5kg bag of spuds than 1kg of loose ones - I want to buy what I need and not loads that don't keep (you need soil on to make then keep I reckon!).
@judithg Always cheaper to buy in bulk but never know why! Harry is back in that field tomorrow!!! We sound very tight but there are loads of leftovers & I think he will be supplying quite a few families.
I love eating terraces like this overlooking streams! This is a lovely scene! Farming children have holidays on their farm which should be special. We holiday'd on my brother-in-laws farm and swang (swung?) from a high tree, made houses in the rocks on the hill and rode our imaginary ponies everywhere!
