Garstang High street this afternoon blocked by a parked car. As you can see the street is quite narrow although there are certain areas you can park for free, the red car had parked in one of the two pinch points so the double decker bus could not squeeze through.
All the traffic was held up for at least twenty minutes. You can see Richard the butcher standing in the middle of the road wondering why there is no traffic going past.
Eventually the driver turned up, a guy in his forties, he must have been mightily embarrassed but drove off to cheers & claps shaking his head as if it was a fuss about nothing!!
On the one way road I met a police car on it's way round but lucky for the driver he was too late!
If you want to see the bus you will have to view large I think....I wanted to show all of the street so chose this photo rather than a nearer one.
Three good things:
1. Almost sitting out weather!!
2. All horses safely returned with no injuries after todays Grand National at Aintree.
3. Lamb Henrys for tea!
Number 3..is that one fathered by henry?!!or a local delicacy! I took a shot in a traffic jam today too but it was so boring!! Lovely narrow high Street, almost as narrow as Rye!!
@happypat the bowlers are back. They think the whole street is their car park. Even though there is an actual carpark 50 metres away. Sorry. I'm on a rant!
Blooming idiot!! However, a pedestrianised High Street looks like a nice idea! And what a perfect sky. Read number 3 a couple of times to make sure you're not actually eating Henry!
@fannyb@judithg Don't you poor girls have Lamb Henrys down in the south? The recipe for lamb henry often says use a lamb shoulder but round here we use lamb shanks with the bone sticking out. Covered in mint sauce the lamb is roasted slowly in the oven until the meat is so tender it drops off the bone..a very popular dish in these parts!!
@fueast Oh the bowlers...I used to be one of those!!! Nothing must come between a bowler & their woods! Silly things though not using the car park ....probably frightened of getting blocked in ......Ok to block you in of course!!!
@happypat oh now you're talking, love a lamb shank.why did'nt you say so in the first place?!! all this local jargon!! except i braise mine....well I would!!!
@tonybeale I don't think it will be Tony...Richard Scott has his butchers stall in the indoor market which is next to the town hall.Open four days a week the indoor food market is an integral part of Garstang. There was a butchers shop on the same side on the south side of the TH but that has now closed, not sure what the name of that one was but was a very tiny shop in a very old building.
Such drama in this picture!!! I absolutely loved looking at it large and seeing everyone out and about. The butcher in the middle of the street is the BEST! One car out of place and the whole village comes to a standstill! Love it!
Some people are so daft or plain selfish it is a great story telling shot catching the local drama love that butcher brilliant capture. Agree about 2 ๐๐of your 3 things too but I am a veggie so lamb๐ off the menu for me - grandpa would not be impressed lamb was his fave
Heh - good bit of local mini-drama. A month or so back the same thing happened up the side of St Pauls, and a bus actually got wedged stuck trying to get round the stupidly parked car (the driver of the bus I was on stopped to try and help)!
What a great street shot. Love how you captured so many folks all looking the same direction. I was about to ask about the lamb henrys and then read your explanation above.
@fueast Just seen this & now realise what @ruthmouch meant!!! Wonder if I would have recognised them as parents of Alison....do you look like your mum? I do have some more pictures!!!! Did they mention the bus that was stuck?
