Bottle Neck. by happypat

Bottle Neck.

Garstang High street this afternoon blocked by a parked car. As you can see the street is quite narrow although there are certain areas you can park for free, the red car had parked in one of the two pinch points so the double decker bus could not squeeze through.
All the traffic was held up for at least twenty minutes. You can see Richard the butcher standing in the middle of the road wondering why there is no traffic going past.
Eventually the driver turned up, a guy in his forties, he must have been mightily embarrassed but drove off to cheers & claps shaking his head as if it was a fuss about nothing!!
On the one way road I met a police car on it's way round but lucky for the driver he was too late!

If you want to see the bus you will have to view large I think....I wanted to show all of the street so chose this photo rather than a nearer one.

Three good things:
1. Almost sitting out weather!!
2. All horses safely returned with no injuries after todays Grand National at Aintree.
3. Lamb Henrys for tea!
Lovely clear photo showing off the street

Number 3..is that one fathered by henry?!!or a local delicacy! I took a shot in a traffic jam today too but it was so boring!! Lovely narrow high Street, almost as narrow as Rye!!

@fannyb Hehe Fanny .. Henry can't father anything!!!!
April 6th, 2013
@happypat :)) poor Henry!
April 6th, 2013
Oo that looks like the outside of my house today. You've got me going again....

What a pity the traffic warden didn't arrive. A nice shot with a beautiful blue sky.
April 6th, 2013
@fueast These inconsiderate car drivers !!!!!!
April 6th, 2013
@happypat the bowlers are back. They think the whole street is their car park. Even though there is an actual carpark 50 metres away. Sorry. I'm on a rant!
April 6th, 2013
Blooming idiot!! However, a pedestrianised High Street looks like a nice idea! And what a perfect sky. Read number 3 a couple of times to make sure you're not actually eating Henry!

@fannyb @judithg Don't you poor girls have Lamb Henrys down in the south? The recipe for lamb henry often says use a lamb shoulder but round here we use lamb shanks with the bone sticking out. Covered in mint sauce the lamb is roasted slowly in the oven until the meat is so tender it drops off the bone..a very popular dish in these parts!!

@fueast Oh the bowlers...I used to be one of those!!! Nothing must come between a bowler & their woods! Silly things though not using the car park ....probably frightened of getting blocked in ......Ok to block you in of course!!!
April 6th, 2013
@happypat oh now you're talking, love a lamb shank.why did'nt you say so in the first place?!! all this local jargon!! except i braise mine....well I would!!!
April 6th, 2013
@fannyb In wine??????
April 6th, 2013
Gives you the impression something is coming down the street
April 6th, 2013
I think that must be local Garstang! Only Hooray Henrys down here!
April 6th, 2013
LOL to this - our high street gets like this sometimes...highly frustrating! love the man in the apron in the middle of the road!
April 6th, 2013
@judithg LOL !!
April 6th, 2013
Is that the butcher's that used to be Gornall's many years ago? Thanks for the memories.
April 6th, 2013
@tonybeale I don't think it will be Tony...Richard Scott has his butchers stall in the indoor market which is next to the town hall.Open four days a week the indoor food market is an integral part of Garstang. There was a butchers shop on the same side on the south side of the TH but that has now closed, not sure what the name of that one was but was a very tiny shop in a very old building.

@happypat what else!! :))
April 6th, 2013
Nice to see this very English street! How thoughtless some people can be!
April 6th, 2013
Such drama in this picture!!! I absolutely loved looking at it large and seeing everyone out and about. The butcher in the middle of the street is the BEST! One car out of place and the whole village comes to a standstill! Love it!
April 6th, 2013
@bpaquette I know it's a mazing isn't it but you know there was no blowing of horns or anything like that & the bus driver never got out of the bus.
April 6th, 2013
Some people are so daft or plain selfish it is a great story telling shot catching the local drama love that butcher brilliant capture. Agree about 2 ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŽof your 3 things too but I am a veggie so lamb๐Ÿ off the menu for me - grandpa would not be impressed lamb was his fave
April 6th, 2013
Lovely shot of the street. Some people just don't care and/or think!
April 6th, 2013
hurray .....nice blue skies :)
April 6th, 2013
Oh well, that caused a bit of a talking point - great street shot. What on earth are lamb Henry's?
April 6th, 2013
Nice scene - the story makes a difference too!
April 7th, 2013
The story absolutely makes this shot. What are lamb Henrys?
April 7th, 2013
Good view of the street. Thanks for the story. It is nice to see a street without traffic though!
April 7th, 2013
Turns out my mum and dad went to garstang yesterday! Am looking for them...

Heh - good bit of local mini-drama. A month or so back the same thing happened up the side of St Pauls, and a bus actually got wedged stuck trying to get round the stupidly parked car (the driver of the bus I was on stopped to try and help)!
April 8th, 2013
What a great street shot. Love how you captured so many folks all looking the same direction. I was about to ask about the lamb henrys and then read your explanation above.
April 9th, 2013
ah so the Tolins are possible suspects!!!!! @fueast So much fun Pat!!! how convenient the police were late and that nobody minded too much!
April 11th, 2013
@fueast Just seen this & now realise what @ruthmouch meant!!! Wonder if I would have recognised them as parents of Alison....do you look like your mum? I do have some more pictures!!!! Did they mention the bus that was stuck?
