Alleys. by happypat

Alleys.

Ever hopeful in Lancaster yesterday, the tables were all out & I did see a few hardy people sitting out...mostly the smokers I think.

Lots of little narrow passages in Lancaster usually called alleys whereas in Garstang we call them wiends.

three good things:
1. Going for hot pot supper to Barton Grange tonight with family.
2. Harry seems to have taken up indoor bowling...so glad as he finds winters long & boring when he can't get out.
3. Our grandson is a fully fledged fire fighter in NZ & has passed all his training.
Love the shiny cobbles and the view through the alley - never heard of a wiend! Well done to the new fire-fighter and good luck to Harry with his new hobby.

Such a nice natural leading line - especially with the girl walking through!
Lots of detail when viewed large. The light has such a warm glow that looks great on the wall.

I always love looking down alley ways for the surprise at the other end
The light in the alley way and the light at the far end and the natural leading lines makes you want to look through
Well done to your grandson having gone through all his fire fighters training - And nice tor Harry to have found a winter's hobby

Lovely shot of this Lancaster alley. We call them alleys in the States too. I'm surprised those chairs didn't blow over from the weather reports I read concerning your area. Thrilling news about your NZ grandson, Pat! I know you are very proud of him!

This is an awesome shot. Love the colour

The old cobbles shine so well in these wee corners of the village, though Lancaster is more than a village! Harry's back must be good for bowling?

@maggiemae Yes maggiemae Lancaster is a city...very small one but still a city & the county town of Lancashire. Garstang is a small market town & Great Eccleston a large village, Inglewhite where we used to live for almost 40 years is a hamlet!! Confusing I know !!

Love it! Lancaster has such a charm being a small city.
It's been too long since we were last there!

@jewelsandbinoculars I have twin grandchildren in NZ they are 21 in February !!! William is a volunteer FF & Alex is in her last year at uni. I feel old !!! On the other hand I have a new baby grandson due on the 19th of this month!!
December 8th, 2013
@happypat where will your grandson do his FF as a volunteer? Do you think he might one day do this as a profession? Congrats to him 😊
December 9th, 2013
@andreajoy Morrinsville Andrea......not sure , can you earn actual money doing fire fighting in NZ ? I think if he ever came back to the UK & that might be a possibility one day he could join the Fire Brigade here.
December 9th, 2013
@happypat absolutely. It is a profession like police. In fact they are often first responders. He would need to go to a larger town, say Hamilton. We have professionals and volunteers in our town of 22,000
