Our new memorial by happypat

Our new memorial

The village had a small dedication of our new war memorial this morning.
Great Eccleston has never had one before so we were very pleased when the two local funeral directors offered to erect one.
The bishop of Lancaster arrived at 11am & did the honours.

Lights out all over the country tonight from 10pm for one hour.

Thank you for all your recent comments.....I keep meaning to reply to you all more but I never get round to it. I read everyone & appreciate all of them!

Three good things:
1. I have had my hearing tested.
2. Good that people still remember our brave soldiers who fought for our freedom. There were two teenage boys at the gathering this morning ......good to see.
3. The sun is out again
How nice of them to do a memorial and good that it is still marked.
Ps is that where you get your fish suppers from by any chance? :)

@jesperani yes you are very sharp Jennifer! That's where you can sit in & have a delicious fish & chips or other plus glass of wine if you so wish! Thanks Jennifer.

Looks like you had a good crowd for the unveiling of the memorial. I think the fish bar was closed when we were there.

Quite a good turn out. 4th August my birthday, so I not only share it with the start of WW1 but also the Queen Mother's birthday.

We had a fish and chip take away for my birthday last night. We went out on Saturday for a meal with friends, but I wasn't going to cook on my birthday too. Grilled gem fish with garlic butter and chips, delicious.

Many happy returns for yesterday, Babs.

Great community feel and lovely that the sun shone!

@onewing A very Happy Birthday Babs.......sounds good no cooking , no one wants to cook on their big day! Interesting seeing the names of the fish you eat...gem fish? We have just had some fuss about fish & chip shops serving up shark instead of the usual cod. We had shark in NZ , they called it white fish & it was absolutely delicious, very white & flaky, I would eat it again no problem! Sometimes it's all in the head!

That is so cool...our village memorial isn't very significant, but there were folk milling around it last night. I couldn't find the candles but did sit in semi darkness and quiet even though my best mate who I've not seen for 2 years was round... ! Some of the stuff on TV was so moving

Lovely to see people here on that day. Nice capture.

Quite unusual not to have one - nice time to 'correct' that.
