The first crisp day of winter with a frost of -3C .
The shops are full of wreaths, holly & Christmas trees & all is festive.
Three good things:
1. Smoke curling from the chimneys in the half light.
2. Christmas lights appearing in houses.
3. Talked to Brian in NZ this morning.
Love the colours. I love seeing the twinkly lights too. Nearer Christmas we started the tradition last year, ( can it be a tradition if it's only the second year?) of taking the boys for a walk round the village at night to see all the lights on the houses and eating chips from the chip shop half way round.
A very young tradition but one they will remember all their lives. I think every family should have their very own traditions that are handed down to every generation. Your boys will have your side of the families traditions & some of dads side & the ones you build together as your family.
@cejaanderson yes I thought it looked beautiful when I came through the village this afternoon about 4pm. I noticed it because I went passed my cinema friends house & she has just redecorated, new carpets, new sofa & new TV & I could see her smoke & thought how lovel it must look in her house tonight. That's why we aren't going to Christmas Bingo ....too comfy to go out again!
Very artistic arrangement, Pat! Lots of colour and the blur of the green leaves is good. Nice to imagine a cold Christmas on the other side of the world - smoke curling up from the chimneys is a pleasurable thought!
What gorgeous colours. I bought a wreath for our shed today (still hiding it from Nige!) He should be glad I didn't buy one for each door. I don't think he's past on many traditions - I sometimes wonder if there's be much of Christmas if it was up to him! I'm trying to think of one...turns out though that (although it's not obvious) the kids love my obsessive 'traditioning' which is very gratifying!
@judithg this is what you call a Scandinavian wreath Judith... I got it for the front door where the B&B's come in. I have also bought a plain round ring covered with fir, I'm going to add holly with berries so make it look homemade. I am hoping they will look pretty on my newly painted Pigeon doors.
Btw if it was up to the men there would be no Christmas! Harry does absolutely nothing....he had an excuse when he was farming but has no excuse now! Says he doesn't like Christmas but promptly enjoys every minute when it arrives!
@happypat Thought so! Well when that supermarket did the advert about frazzled mums doing everything they got criticised but I thought it was spot on! Nigel even pointed at a fairly basic Christmas dinner in a magazine and said, 'Now that's a sensible amount, not overdone' - I pointed out that that's exactly what he could have as he puts the food on his plate not me! He did at least concede that that's true - I have 6 big men to feed this Christmas and I'm looking forward to it - in fact I wonder if I should have ordered more chipolatas!
Lovely focus and composition, what lovely colours too. You are really giving us the Christmas feel especially with talk of chimney smoke in the dusk. Feels like the start of a story.
Very pretty, lovely colours. You will know of course that Christmas berries here means strawberries, raspberries and blueberries piled high on top of a pavlova
@newbank yOur comment has reminded me that when our boys were smaller, on Christmas Eve, to try and kill some time and tire them out before bed we used to walk around our village and they each used to judge each household's Christmas lights, writing the scores down on a piece of paper. Happy Days and the stuff of great memories. Now they are 14 and 17 they don't need such entertainment any more.
