The traveling Nativity last night round the village went off really well. Two performances, around 250 at the first and 150 at the second so well attended.
It was beautifully done with the small hamlet of Inglewhite where we used to live all taking part and using the pub, joiners shop and a number of gardens to stage the event.
This is the small village green where the shepherds scene was staged.
Our daughter Cathy got married in Inglewhite & they stopped here to have photos taken.
Afterwards we went in the Green Man pub & Alex met up with a number of her old classmates.
Three good things:
1. Village life.
2. A whole salmon on half price offer at Booths.
3. Alex is out for a meal at the Cartford Inn - I think she is enjoying herself!
Can relate to no 1. having spent 28 years living in Birmingham, Manchester & Leeds it was like I let out a huge breath I had been holding all my life the day we moved to our village. I adore village life and will have to leave this village kicking & screaming if made to leave.
@quietpurplehaze@countrylassie It is a great idea.....a few gardens & a suitable place to build a stable......we had a proper donkey that Mary rode & the police were kind enough to close the road.
Reminds me of an episode of the Vicar of Dibley when they did this! So funny - wish I could see it again. Great lighting to have here for their performance and good for your photograph!
What a wonderful tradition and one I've never heard of. Here, we have Los Pasados. The onlookers follow Mary and Jesus and their donkey to various houses asking for a place to stay, and each house tells them "no." Finally, everyone ends up back at one place where posole (a Mexican dish) is served to all.
What a lovely idea - I've never heard of this before. You've captured it really well too, with the low light. Lovely to see the live sheep - makes it seem more realistic.
They played the whole thing with quite a lot of humour.....the shepherds were particularly funny with broad Lancashire accents!
Thank you all for your lovely comments!
What a wonderful idea Pat. I do miss village life although a small market town is only one step removed! Cities are fun and exciting for one day at a time but then home.
