Our monthly Whitechapel Wanderers walk today....only six of us made it but it turned out a lovely crisp frosty day with no wind.
We set out from Booths car park in Garstang along the Millenium walk to Scorton & back via Wyersdale, about 5 miles we reckoned.
I did slip a few times but managed to stay upright!
I think a walking pole might be handy......most of the others have them but I have been resisting.
Three good things:
1. Great exercise in good company.
2. The vacuum flask keeping my coffee hot.
3. Five large clementines for £1.
Well you are certainly getting the hang of this fruit eating lark Pat! Sounds like you were luckier than me. I have just been out to put the donks away and slipped over in mud (at least most of it was mud!) - covered!
@julzmaioro yes Nordic walking looks safer....I think we might go a bit slow for so called Nordic walking!! We did walk faster today as our friend with the asthma didn't go.
Great! I usually walk with a with a walking pole which is great when the ground is muddy. I must get my walking boots in action again soon. You all look well prepared for the walk.
@jtookey150 I have never used a pole before but the last two walks it's been fairly slippy & it only takes one fall to mess your life up! The poles don't look like walking sticks so that's OK!
@quietpurplehaze thank you for the fave Hazel.....Ray is a walker too, you can't do anything better.....I am trying to walk more. We did have a great walk & I was back home by 2pm.
Looks as thought you had a good day for it Pat. I was thinking of getting a walking pole but thought it might do more harm than good as I usually have the dogs with me and I have this vision of being tangled up with dogs and pole. I know from experience how embarrassing it is to end up in A&E explaining that you fell over the dog lead!
Well you'll have had to run to catch up after this! There are some nasty secret icy patches out at the moment. A walking pole is quite trendy - I've used one for coming down mountains on rare occasions when I've been up one!
I succumbed to using poles when we had a fortnight alpine walking in Austria! Thank heavens I did. It meant I completed some of the more challenging walks.
This is a Millennium walkway? So no cars along this wide trail. I must say it would be nice to walk with others! The only walking group we have here is for diabetics and rather plump people! I made a walking pole out of manuka wood and still have it.
@maggiemae no this is t the Millenium way maggiemae, we have passed it by now & are walking on the road although we saw very few cars. Harry has a handmade walking stuck he bought at the Cartford Inn where we ate when you were here. I fancy one of those folding metal ones.
@happypat Mr Sean lives 5 minutes drive away. Next village up from us. The first time I ever looked on 365, I looked at images for inspiration for an Introduction to photography course I was doing at the time a few months before joining. On the home page was a photo of the village centre Sean lives in and I know like the back of my hand sitting next to photos from all round the world. Bit surreal really!
A lovely image of great friends enjoying the outdoors together. I should join a walking club...be good for photo ops as well! A walking stick in icy conditions might be a good idea Pat.
lovely shot, nothing better than going out for a walk with a group of friends. I love our walking group and we usually end up with lunch somewhere too so even better.
Such a fun shot of your walking group, Pat. You are a hardy bunch doing a five-miler in frosty weather...makes me feel like a complete slacker. :) A walking stick sounds like a good thing to have on an icy/muddy/slippery walking path.
fav. A fab shot - so natural, the colours, the composition, the light. Shall show it to Ray who is a rambler par excellence!
