Cook books

I shall not be using these books tonight, egg & chips for tea......proper homemade chips that is!

Just a few of my cook books .....I had lots more but there were too many so I took the others to the charity shop.

We have finished our recent bout of decorating today so I am not in the mood for cooking much.
I am covered in paint splatters so off to get cleaned up after I have posted here.
Very pleased with the look of the room & the next job is making the curtains.

Three good things:
1. I am so ready for putting that paintbrush down.....no painting tomorrow!
2. Saw little Finn almost running around last night on Skype.....my word he can move!
3. Looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow.
Nice capture. I should do the same with my cookbooks. Too many. Glad you're happy with the painting.

Gosh, what a lot of cookbooks still! Nice colourful arrangement. Are your home-made chips in a deep fat fryer or in the oven?
February 25th, 2015
Interesting selection Pat and a great shot.
February 25th, 2015
On my way, eggs not to well done ad love chips!!

Bep
I did the same with my cookbooks. When I need a special recipe I ask Google!

@quietpurplehaze In the chip pan Hazel!

We're going through my mother's things right now preparing to sell her house. I sorted her cookbooks yesterday. They're in horrible shape after 70 years, but oh so dear. She was an excellent cook.

I do admire your energy, Pat. Looking at your titles I see you have Jamie's 30 minute meals - well I have become a big fan of his 15 minute recipes (which take me 30 minutes or 40 if you include the cleaning up) which are currently airing on telly here. And I am a big fan of Annabel Langbein too.
February 25th, 2015
Great collection.. and yes pleased to see our favourite Annabel Langbein in there.. another Kiwi favourite is Chelsea Winter so you should put your order in to your DIL's..
February 25th, 2015
@anazad511 yes glad to have finished too Ana!
February 25th, 2015
@thistle Some given & some bought but I never seem to look at the much!
February 25th, 2015
@thistle Too late they've all gone!
February 25th, 2015
@gijsje I am beginning to do the same Bep.....saves all the hunting around!
February 25th, 2015
@cejaanderson One thing that's close to,our hearts is mums cookbooks, often with handwritten notes along side.....keep them all Jane.
February 25th, 2015
@snaphappi Ah you noticed the NZ cook book. My daughter in law gave me that one complete with proper cup measures! Poor old Janie got some stick for his so called 30 min recipes!
February 25th, 2015
@julzmaioro I haven't heard of Chelsea Winter , must watch out for that one! NZ recipes are great but pretty much geared up for summer eating I find!
February 25th, 2015
A lovely selection Pat. I see a mixture of old and new there. Love your composition with the bowl in front.
February 25th, 2015
This is gorgeous and I was just wondering what to do for a photo for today........so watch my space and you'll smile at some old favourites!!
February 25th, 2015
Nice composition! I like the light and focus on the books.
February 25th, 2015
I have 5 of those. I may have to thin my collection down too, I have just counted 70!!! I have more painting to come, first on agenda the refurb of the bathroom, sammy wanted his room to be pink when it's get done for his birthday, we said no to that but have agreed that we will have link in the bathroom which is going against the tide of the rest of the house which is getting lighter and calmer!!
February 25th, 2015
sounds like you deserve that quiet day.
February 25th, 2015
Love the old tried and true ones to the right. Speaking of a by gone era. Love this image especially the choice of plate for the foreground
February 25th, 2015
I do love a good cookery book! Slimming world recipe tonight, not that impressive! Lovely shot, reminds me of my bookshelf!
February 25th, 2015
@busylady Thank you Judith, I did wish I had moved the bowl as I thought the focus was odd so glad you think different! It was just a very quick shot tonight.
February 25th, 2015
@sarah19 l will Salllie.......I am very lazy tonight & way behind commenting!
February 25th, 2015
@kwind Thanks Kim.
February 25th, 2015
@newbank 70 cook books...I had to read that twice........mind you I had a lot before I cleared some out. Cook books look so tempting in shops & I read them a bit when i get home & that's it! Sammy is obviously a man of his own ideas! Pink though a bit girly is a very comforting colour, ideal for a bedroom.....pity we expect everyone to conform & I can imagine his little friends might be a bit scathing about pink!
February 25th, 2015
@rustymonkey I have my feet up tonight Karen....I ache all over....never knew it was such a work out wielding a roller!
February 25th, 2015
@ubobohobo The ones to the right are hand me downs.....the ones that are used most to! Thank you Margaret.
February 25th, 2015
You'll be having to eat extra Shredded Wheat when they come over Pat! Lovely shot - I love cook books but I've had a cull as well.
February 25th, 2015
@lucypics I would imagine you have lots of cook books in your kitchen Lucy.....I almost bought a Nigel Slater one going cheap in Booths. I like his simplicity but I knew it would sit on the shelf with this lot!
February 25th, 2015
@happypat his 4 best friands have pink bedrooms. They are all girls! He has many pink things but his room is a longer term investment so we said no this time. Lots have been acquired from second hand book shops. I like the history of seeing what is in different aged ones.
February 25th, 2015
@judithg Yes I think I will need lots of porridge! Finn will take lots of running after! I got to the stage there were cook books piled upon cookbooks.....there aren't any very exciting ones...what I would give to have Chinese, a indian etc in my repertoire!
February 25th, 2015
A lovely display - I had to turf out a lot of mine as well , and sent them to the charity shop !! Now I have been buying more --but tend to use my tatty tried and tested recipes and a self made book of family and friends including recipes I used in teaching ! But a new book is always a thrill to read and find some new recipes and ideas !
February 25th, 2015
a nice insight in life in Pat's home :)
February 25th, 2015
@beryl I like reading them Beryl but not keen on making stuff! There are some fab cookery books now, almost like reading a novel some of them!
February 25th, 2015
@phil_howcroft Thanks Phil...yes part of my kitchen again!!
February 25th, 2015
Lovely selection of books. I haven't had home made chips in a chip pan for years. Still got the chip pan though and the crinkly chip cutter. Maybe I should dig them out again.
February 26th, 2015
They all look untouched! Do you cook with gloves on? Egg and chips is my favourite! Particularly with very soft yolks! You seem to do so much in your day and still have time to talk on 365 and also Skype!
February 26th, 2015
Looks like Delia is favourite of yours. This I could cook as well as her.
February 26th, 2015
@onewing There's nothing like them Babs but we only have them at the most once a month if that.....not exactly a heathy option but great for a quick supper! Sorry I have been lax commenting while I have been decorating & feel I have neglected the ones from t'other side of the world that come in late at night. By the time I get round to looking at 365 you are way down the scrolling!
February 26th, 2015
@maggiemae @deliad

Thank you both....same answer to you as @onewing really re commenting but I appreciate your lovely comments. I only seem to look at the cook books when I am not cooking! LOL. The ones on the right are used mostly but when you make stuff much the same every time....Harry is not an adventurous eater though improving when we go out....I tend to use the same books each time.
February 26th, 2015
Mary Berry is my fav, I remember her in home and freezer digest when my kids were little and used her ever since, also Delia and an old good housekeeping book, but I too had a throw recently. love cookery books, nice shot
February 26th, 2015
Egg & chips? Food fit for the Gods! Nice focus on the books!
February 26th, 2015
It looks very homely.
February 26th, 2015
@helly31 Quite right Helen!
February 26th, 2015
@pinkpaintpot Yes I think Mary Berry is my favourite too......isn't she wonderful for her age & so enjoys life despite setbacks.
February 26th, 2015
@leananiemand Thanks Leanne.
February 26th, 2015
I like you have so many coo'k books, which I hardly ever use , I have a folder with all my favourite dishes
February 26th, 2015
Nice display of your cook books.
February 27th, 2015
I think we are kindred spirits. My daughter half inched her favourite and I too took lots to the charity shop!
February 27th, 2015
Nice shot of your cook books....I am not a "neat" painter. I watch those DIY shows and they all seem to wear nice clothes and shoes (even heels) while painting...hahaha!! I suppose it's only for the cameras though.
February 28th, 2015
I have SO MANY cookbooks, and I rarely use most of them. Have my favorites. I ought to take them to our local Assistance League Thrift Shop too. I'd surely have more room in our pantry if I did......
February 28th, 2015
Between us Edward and I have four shelves of cookbooks, including three of these, and we use all of them. When he leaves home we're going to have terrible trouble remembering who owns which ones.
February 28th, 2015
@dh Edward is your son Delena & a cook to boot...you will miss him!! I like a man who cooks!!
February 28th, 2015
@happypat He's very good, but I have to limit how often he cooks because he rarely chooses healthy recipes.
