I shall not be using these books tonight, egg & chips for tea......proper homemade chips that is!
Just a few of my cook books .....I had lots more but there were too many so I took the others to the charity shop.
We have finished our recent bout of decorating today so I am not in the mood for cooking much.
I am covered in paint splatters so off to get cleaned up after I have posted here.
Very pleased with the look of the room & the next job is making the curtains.
Three good things:
1. I am so ready for putting that paintbrush down.....no painting tomorrow!
2. Saw little Finn almost running around last night on Skype.....my word he can move!
3. Looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow.
We're going through my mother's things right now preparing to sell her house. I sorted her cookbooks yesterday. They're in horrible shape after 70 years, but oh so dear. She was an excellent cook.
I do admire your energy, Pat. Looking at your titles I see you have Jamie's 30 minute meals - well I have become a big fan of his 15 minute recipes (which take me 30 minutes or 40 if you include the cleaning up) which are currently airing on telly here. And I am a big fan of Annabel Langbein too.
Great collection.. and yes pleased to see our favourite Annabel Langbein in there.. another Kiwi favourite is Chelsea Winter so you should put your order in to your DIL's..
@snaphappi Ah you noticed the NZ cook book. My daughter in law gave me that one complete with proper cup measures! Poor old Janie got some stick for his so called 30 min recipes!
I have 5 of those. I may have to thin my collection down too, I have just counted 70!!! I have more painting to come, first on agenda the refurb of the bathroom, sammy wanted his room to be pink when it's get done for his birthday, we said no to that but have agreed that we will have link in the bathroom which is going against the tide of the rest of the house which is getting lighter and calmer!!
@busylady Thank you Judith, I did wish I had moved the bowl as I thought the focus was odd so glad you think different! It was just a very quick shot tonight.
@newbank 70 cook books...I had to read that twice........mind you I had a lot before I cleared some out. Cook books look so tempting in shops & I read them a bit when i get home & that's it! Sammy is obviously a man of his own ideas! Pink though a bit girly is a very comforting colour, ideal for a bedroom.....pity we expect everyone to conform & I can imagine his little friends might be a bit scathing about pink!
@lucypics I would imagine you have lots of cook books in your kitchen Lucy.....I almost bought a Nigel Slater one going cheap in Booths. I like his simplicity but I knew it would sit on the shelf with this lot!
@happypat his 4 best friands have pink bedrooms. They are all girls! He has many pink things but his room is a longer term investment so we said no this time. Lots have been acquired from second hand book shops. I like the history of seeing what is in different aged ones.
@judithg Yes I think I will need lots of porridge! Finn will take lots of running after! I got to the stage there were cook books piled upon cookbooks.....there aren't any very exciting ones...what I would give to have Chinese, a indian etc in my repertoire!
A lovely display - I had to turf out a lot of mine as well , and sent them to the charity shop !! Now I have been buying more --but tend to use my tatty tried and tested recipes and a self made book of family and friends including recipes I used in teaching ! But a new book is always a thrill to read and find some new recipes and ideas !
Lovely selection of books. I haven't had home made chips in a chip pan for years. Still got the chip pan though and the crinkly chip cutter. Maybe I should dig them out again.
They all look untouched! Do you cook with gloves on? Egg and chips is my favourite! Particularly with very soft yolks! You seem to do so much in your day and still have time to talk on 365 and also Skype!
@onewing There's nothing like them Babs but we only have them at the most once a month if that.....not exactly a heathy option but great for a quick supper! Sorry I have been lax commenting while I have been decorating & feel I have neglected the ones from t'other side of the world that come in late at night. By the time I get round to looking at 365 you are way down the scrolling!
Thank you both....same answer to you as @onewing really re commenting but I appreciate your lovely comments. I only seem to look at the cook books when I am not cooking! LOL. The ones on the right are used mostly but when you make stuff much the same every time....Harry is not an adventurous eater though improving when we go out....I tend to use the same books each time.
Mary Berry is my fav, I remember her in home and freezer digest when my kids were little and used her ever since, also Delia and an old good housekeeping book, but I too had a throw recently. love cookery books, nice shot
Nice shot of your cook books....I am not a "neat" painter. I watch those DIY shows and they all seem to wear nice clothes and shoes (even heels) while painting...hahaha!! I suppose it's only for the cameras though.
I have SO MANY cookbooks, and I rarely use most of them. Have my favorites. I ought to take them to our local Assistance League Thrift Shop too. I'd surely have more room in our pantry if I did......
Between us Edward and I have four shelves of cookbooks, including three of these, and we use all of them. When he leaves home we're going to have terrible trouble remembering who owns which ones.
