We do like a good glass of wine in our family & alwas try & buy a NZ variety if we can so it was fascinating to see all these famous wine growing companies along the road from Picton to Christchurch today.
The Brancott Estate had a white rose shrub bush at the end of each row....looked pretty but there must have been a reason or a brand image.
The road we travelled along was just amazing, long & quite testing driver wise. Lots of hills & twisty turns & we hav to do it all again on the way home!
I can see why people fly one way!
We might not drive just as far as we think we might in South Island!
Off to meet William & Alex in the local pub in Lincoln now. Looking forward to seeing them both although we saw Alex in January it's been two years since I have seen William & longer for Harry.
I drove through there on Sunday. It is a long way Pat. Have been to Wanaka now on my way up the West Coast getting to Nelson tomorrow. Feel exactly the same way about the long distances. Will fly down next time. Enjoy your trip and the wine, hope the weather is good.
Wonderful landscape.. the Yealands Winery is fascinating and you can drive right through it .. they have short legged sheep grazing between the rows ( short legs so they can't reach the vines) The roses are planted as an indicator if there are any bugs around..
beautiful view Pat. You must also try out the Yarra Valley wines when you get to Melbourne. I believe roses are susceptible to downy mildew like grapes and because they are affected first they act as an early warning to the grape growers to spray their vines.
Great shot Pat, we too only buy NZ wine. The company that make Graham Nortons wine are moving their production into an old winery building in our village!!!
I like seeing the roses at the end of the vineyard rows too! I've found you can buy these wines cheaper at Countdown which is bizarre! The road further south is easy peasy!
@judithg You need a lot of time for NZ Judith but a beautiful country with some amazing scenery. Canada is one on my wish list too, specially Vancouver. Too many places too little time!
The scale of a country is so much more than the number of miles one can travel.
