A symbolic photo today!
One of Harry's birthday presents was this incinerator & I have been using it today to burn years of bills & receipts from when we were in business. We kept them in the attic & I have been desperate to start getting rid of the loads of plastic bags of accounts.
Half done today but another days worth yet. It's surprisingly hard work as the bin tends to clog up with ash at the bottom. We'll leave it to go cool, empty the ash & start again another day.
Over seven years since we retired so allowed to get rid of the lot!
Three good things:
1. Clearing out!
2. Looking through some of the stuff to chuck out I was heartily glad I hadn't to do these books ever again!
3. Thick gloves to keep the flames off my hands.
@julzmaioro v exactly Julz, we go back to 1996, even then Harry was saying today perhaps we'd better go through them just in case.....no way! I have kept the VAT books though.
We are the same - reams of accounts piled high in the storage room in the garage but we get rid of them (after 10 years) at the recycle place. I still have to do the GST for three companies but no other papers thank goodness!
@maggiemae it's surprising how heavy they are too, up & down three flights of stairs, I think I did a full work out! Only done less than half too! Smoke gets in your eyes day two!
We have to keep our tax returns for 10 years and then we get rid of them in our wood burner fire each winter. We used to shred them and put them in the green waste bin, but then we discovered that you can put paper in the green waste but not shredded paper. How does that work!
Too right Ali!
It's good he can joke about it!
