I took the Canadian girls to see the Langdale Pikes in the Lake District last week. We passed through the village of Elterwater.
This smoke curling up into the early Spring air looked inviting & made me think of cups of tea!
Three good things:
1. Saw the film Their Finest today. We enjoyed it very much & loved seeing the lovely fashions. The clothes would be quite in keeping with today's fashions.
2. Good observations on the small details ie beautiful expensive jumpers when the norm was to wear hand knitted jumpers. Plus since when did that horrid swear word that begins with an F & ends with G become a word used during the Second World War? The shorter version was a very rare shocking thing to say in my day never mind the longer version.
3. Our very own personal showing of the film, we were the only people in the whole place! We sat on the back row eating our sandwiches!
Such a quaint and cozy sight! I love the charm and beauty of your Lake District photos. The girls had such a perfect tour guide. They must have enjoyed their time with you tremendously.
Love watching a movie in an empty or practically empty theater. :)
Great photo... Is that James Herriot driving through the village on his way to a cow calving.. use to love that program... Yes that word is the norm these day's .. and I must admit there have been times when I have used it ... wash my mouth out.. but there is another one that I think is worse .. but we won't go there .. must keep an I out for that movie..
....ending in "G"? Frog? Fractionalising? Think I know what you mean though! I had to google Pikes - such an interesting word for mountains! It would have been lovely driving through this sort of scenery! So different from Canada!
Such a homely scene of scattered homesteads and the curling smoke from the ( no doubt) wood burning stoves ! Love this scene Pat , but I really hate to hear the "F" word !
@julzmaioro could very easily be although I don't think Yorkshire would be very happy for you Cumbria to pinch James Herriot! Imthink we all say the odd swear word these days but I do particularly hate hearing that one & im pretty sure it wasn't even coined in 1942 or thereabouts!
@maggiemae He he frog would be good......I hate that 'frog' place or somesuch! It was a very enjoyable day & to revisit places I hadn't been to for a while
Beautiful lakes, I wish they were nearer to us, I'd visit often. That curling smoke gives the perfect focal point and says, home, cosy, fires and yes, tea!
I was quite distracted by the knitwear when we went - kept wondering whether I could get patterns! Nigel and I were the youngest in a full cinema and we were practically tutting because people were talking through the trailers and then people were quite vocally enjoying the film (which I didn't mind) - think it's because everyone takes alcohol in!!
@judithg oh my Judith we never take alcohol into our cinemas, chance would be a fine thing! Don't think it would be allowed & no bar in vue! Very cosmopolitan in Cambridge obviously! Yes I loved the sweaters! The best part fir me was the clothes right down to the little ankle boots!
