Giant Redwood ring by happypat

Giant Redwood ring

When we visited the Redwood Treewalk in Rotorua in NZ this Spring I was fascinated to see this ancient section of wood.
Over 2,000 years old & 3.5 metres wide its a log section from a massive American Sequoia tree.
Charting historical milestones in selected growth rings it was very impressive!
We took Max & Finn & had a lovely happy day little knowing what was in stall for the world around us.
We just got home in time before the airports shut the day after we flew.

Three good things:
1. Our village bakery re opened today....there was a queue outside when we called at the pharmacy this morning.
2. Prince William & Kate are doing sterling work during this pandemic. Playing Bingo with care home patients etc.
3. Horrid wind today but dying down this weekend.
Great images. Love the history and how huge it looks with your grandsons

Took a photo of my Grandies here as well.. The Rotorua tree walk people have been on the news several times talking about the struggle they are having and going to have to keep things going... encouraging NZers to go for a visit.. . If they make it cheaper for the time being hopefully it would encourage more to go as it would be a real shame for it not to carry on..

@julzmaioro We had such fun there we would go back there like a shot ...a magical place...hope they keep going, will be missing the tourists so badly.
I notice Emirates has started flying to various countries but NZ is not one of them! Ant told me they wouldn’t be letting any visitors in any time soon mum! I don’t want to visit this year anyway but it’s good to know you can if you want or need!

So impressive! And even more showing the most important events that happened during its life. We also were very lucky to have a fantastic holiday in Rome before the full force of the pandemic in Italy. Just got back home in time.

It's crazy to think that you've been posting on here so long that we can go all the way back on here to the day Finn was born! (Nearly the same for Max too, who was born only 6 months before you started)

@aguycalledjack Thanks for that, Jack! I have a son in Yokohama who is the It manager of the German School there. He's been there for about 20 years! I think he loves the people! (he married one!)

@happypat Yeah that's it - mixed feelings but I can't put it off forever! Not sure I'll be making my life here now that my flight's booked haha — a bit late to try that out sorry!
