I stopped on the bridge & took a photo of these new farm buildings for my sons in NZ. Our youngest son worked for this farmer for a couple of years after he left school.
We are always interested in seeing what our neighbouring farmers are up to.
This new dairy enterprise showing commitment to the future for this farmer who has two young sons who hopefully will be keen enough to carry on the legacy of his father, grandfather & great grandfather.
A considerable investment!!
Three good things:
1. Lunch out at Cathys & then a walk with Connie along the Lancaster canal at Garstang.
2. A gift of some bulbs for our garden.
3. An easy supper of boiled eggs & buttered toast.
@maggiemae Yes all winter & many farms have them inside all year round these days too maggie! This farm does let its cows out but the more cows a farm has there is less land for them to roam on. Feed is taken inside as the farmers can utilise it better especially during or wet miserable winters. Personally I don’t like cows inside all year round but they do look happy enough in these very large buildings. Intensive farming seems to be necessary to make a living on a farm here now unless you are diversifying into cheese, ice cream, yoghurts etc.
They are like ducks all serene on the top but paddling their feet under the water to keep afloat. Spend more to make more! Whatever happened to the good old family farm…..sadly very few left!
