We called them that when we were farming & strange to think our daughter Cathy is a qualified podiatrist & our eldest son Brian is a qualified cow hoof trimmer & used to go all over the North of England with his special cow crush trimming cows feet.
He spent time in Denmark learning the art.
Not a job I would fancy!
Very proud of Cathy as she works at The Foot Room in Longridge on a Wednesday & Thursday, the rest of the week private care.
As you can read they have signed up for this very worthy cause…..very rewarding too she found it.
A rewarding think to do, helping people. Foot care is often neglected by older people in particular let alone by those who don’t have the facilities because they are homeless.
Wow good on Cathy.. I can imagine that could be quite a challenge.. I had my hoofs trimmed yesterday.. something I get done regularly since getting neuropathy..
Does Brian still do hoof trimming.. though more sheep than cows where he is now..
@julzmaioro No he doesn’t do it now Julz nor has he for many a year. Gave up when we needed him more at home anyway but he was well sought after at the time fir guessing about ten years…a young man’s job anyway I think!!
Oh this is so great. Cathy has a kind heart for sure. We have a friend who is a ferrier. He goes all over north Texas putting new hooves on horses. I think he’s 50 though, I bet he’s slowing down.
@louannwarren Yes hard work…. Hard on the back too especially horses. The cattle crushes work quite well some tipping the cows over but Brian’s had a support for cows leg it just helped hold the hoof up better!

What a wonderful thing to do. We have a service in Australia called Orange Sky where volunteers organize free laundry service and shower service for homeless people.
