Rembering those who landed in Holland

In memory of Alfie

He travelled his own path through life, way outside the usual landmarks of growing up. He never got to make his own choices about how and where to live his life or spend each day.

But, Alfie transformed lives and deeply touched many people along the way.

He taught his parents the meaning of true and unconditional love. In this they became experts.
There is so much, that those of us who knew just a little of their struggles, sacrifices and battles on Alfie’s behalf, can learn from their total commitment to one who depended on them in every way.

Nine years of life in ‘Holland’* where together this small family found beauty and a deep wisdom that will travel with them wherever they go next.

Nine years of one amazing young lad who now rests at peace, but who lives on in others.

Today is a very sad day.

Beautiful photo and very deep words. I worked with special needs children and adults for 10 years. I can identify with the words.

These special children touch many people and enrich the lives of those who know, love and care for them. A beautiful tribute for Alfie and his family.

Very emotive words and they connect appropriately with the image.

A beautiful tribute Helen, that was very touching. I feel sadness for the loss of that family. The poem by Emily Perl Kingsley is quite special, thank you for pointing to it.
