Unaware of the political significance of the day and with no regard to weather conditions, this little one is now hatched.
I didn't check in yesterday but visited in the rain at lunchtime to day and was excited to see a small ball of grey fluff protruding from the underside of 'my' pen. I waited patiently and was rewarded with just a tiny one second peek into the world followed by a hasty return to the safe warm underside of mum. The amount of foliage now surrounding Mum; the high risk of sliding straight down the muddy bank and landing on top of the her; and the persistent rain; prevented anything more than the smallest glimpse of the scene through the camera lens.
In the heavy rain later on this afternoon, I squelched back along the river bank to see if there had been any further developments. Baby cygnet was looking drenched and working hard to push the remains of his exposed backside safely back under Mum's belly.
This is wonderful!! I was hoping you were correct and not the passers by... I'm glad they are hatching!! May they stay safe, can't wait to hear your reports Helen. :)
