I like to think this Red Admiral was pausing in wonder at the display of his own species and the bees beneath it, all busily collecting nectar.
Except that pausing, is not really what they do.
There was a lot of flitting about and buzzing loudly along the ivy and honeysuckle. So many insects and butterflies were gathered in the September sunshine to take advantage of a break in the clouds and enjoy a flutter.
As Mr H stopped to speak with a neighbour the conversation quickly turned to football, enabling me to extricate my attention from the banter and happily snap away. I am pleased to have taken the opportunity because whilst this might not have been my chosen subject matter for the day, I later became embroiled with a paint brush and then further consumed with a search for a sheet of paper (a specific one), as yet unfound. And as day has turned to dull dusk and now dark, I have closed the door on the likelihood of further photographic inspiration.
I feel like it's about to take off and flutter on by past me. Super pov and capture of the colours Helen. All the insects seem to be extra busy at the moment. Stocking up for winter I guess. Hope your piece of paper turns up soon.
I like the angle you've caught the butterfly at - adds dynamism, it looks about to launch. And it emphasises the texture of the wing edges - a bit more creative than the usual spread-out shots of butterflies.
