Continuing my walled theme from the West Bank, this halfandhalf capture had to be included - although I have gone for adding a bit of contrast to the Walled Off Hotel part of the scene. This is, of course, Banksy's latest contribution to commenting on the situation and I felt hugely privileged to be able to visit within weeks of it opening. The claim to fame as the 'hotel with the worst view in the world' - I contest. Of course it is ridiculously close to the abhorrent wall, but nevertheless the artistry and intrigue that surrounds detracts just a little from the harsh reality. Not so for the hotel that we stayed in on our last night in Beit jala which demonstrated the stark and unglamorous effects of the wall on business, tourism and environment.
By the way, the hotel is a must visit for anyone travelling that way and contains an art exhibition and a museum as well as a full display of Banksys own work. I can vouch for the cocktails too.
@janemartin hello Jane. Lovely to see you back. I have never been to the Waldorf, but you can check for yourself by looking at their website. http://www.walledoffhotel.com/
I Googled the Walled Off Hotel and it is really interesting. To see Banksy's work in person must have been quite a magnificent sight to see.
