After an early morning walk during the week, and much deliberation and editing, my folders for 25 and 26 July are now empty. So to fill these days, I return to the moors of Yorkshire. I think next week might be a good time to take you back into the walled garden to see what was there, but for now, you see life amongst the thistles.
I have been unable to identify this moth, but enjoyed its orange brown colours in the sunshine. There is an alternative shot in my extras album.
Yes, it looks like a Skipper to me too- which is a butterfly. You can tell the difference between a moth and butterfly by the way the hold their wings when at rest. The butterflies hold them out- like this fellow is. The moths hold them flat and close to the body. Good shot!
@janemartin patience, and being prepared to look a fool as you rush from one patch to another in vein. @fotoblah thank you. Yes a small skipper it would appear to be. Thanks for your kind comment. @jorlam agreed about the fly. thanks for the observations @olivetreeann thank you Ann. Yes, I am not sure why I had assumed it to be a moth but that is certainly the reason I couldn't identify it. Thank you for your help. @stephanies thank you. Yes, I agree, a small kipper. I found a reference after Anns post and was sure the antennae were those of a small skipper. @kerosene thank you Caroline. They are right. very pleased to make you happy!
