So I relegated my walled garden series to the extras album in order that I could show off the abstracts during August. I even managed to take one today. And now, I discover that it is, in fact, still July.
So here we are, back in the garden again. ( I will need to hang on to that abstract as I think there will be a limited supply). These gooseberries were ripe and ready for picking. We tasted them in a crumble and I can confirm them to be as good as they look.
I don't know about you, but crumble is my stand in dessert - I love to make it and experiment with different ingredients in the topping. I also enjoy the fact that it is not necessary to weigh anything. When Sunday lunch had to stretch to two extra people yesterday and there was no pudding in the offing, I ventured out with my visiting son, just an hour before lunch time and we found some blackberries for the taking. Blackberry and apple crumble was fresh on the table to follow the slow roasted lamb shoulder with pomegranate and mint. Everyone was happy.
Gooseberries always look so fresh - lovely shot of them sheltering beneath the leaves and good to hear they tasted as good as they look. I'm with you on crumbles - everyone enjoys them and yet they're so easy to whip up at the last minute. Your lunch sounds delicious.
Those gooseberries look lovely. My Mother in law had two bushes completely stripped one day, its still a mystery who or what took them with theories ranging from foxes to starling. Luckily the Gooseberry theif is not partial to blackberries!. Invariably they too will end up in a crumble.
Those fruits look just about ready to eat.. Love the freshness of this tempting image..
i'm salivating at the thought of gooseberry crumble.. i've not seen gooseberries for two summers and really miss them. i finished my last crumble (cherry with not much apple) two days ago..
My goodness- the menu sounds delicious! Why wouldn't anyone not be happy with that tasty offering? The gooseberries look good too. Sounds like it's a great summer for your taste buds!
@kwind thank you - the garden was lush @evalieutionspics - thanks, something appealing about the notion I agree @moonmtn thanks - we all enjoyed it @pdulis thanks Peter @olivetreeann yes - just picked up some home grown cooking apples from a colleague at work, so more crumbles could be on there way @jorlam strange, but I used to hate gooseberries as a child, but now gooseberries - rhubarb - damsons - all my favourites. @stimuloog thanks, hope you get a crumble soon! @helenm2016 thanks Helen, hope you find some for yourself soon @suzanne234 that must have been a great disappointment, I found the blackberry bushes stripped too but I know the cause of that. Luckily there was a secret bush that the early morning pickers hadn't noticed. @flowerfairyann thanks Ann for your lovely comment.
I love the ripeness of your pic!
