I am constantly, now, on the hunt for a composition which makes use of the colours around me. I am falling at the first hurdle - I see very little colour that pleases the eye and find week two of the Dogwood challenge surprisingly difficult.
Today, I found that the overnight lighting on the silver street "faces" sculpture in town, was giving colour to parts of the structure and so took this detail which seemed to consist of (nearly) opposites in the colour wheel. I have included an overlay taken from another part of the sculpture.
Almost everywhere else I looked, failed to inspire me to even remove the camera from my pocket. I am noticing just how many neutral colours surround me - peppered with small blocks of a single colour in the form of road signs or advertising logos - which for the most part contribute to my minds eye, as urban clutter. it is a difficult time of year for colour.
Week two of the 52 week challenge runs as follows:
Composition: Colour Harmony
Get out your colour wheel. Do opposites attract? Can there be harmony with opposite colours? Does the Hulk wear purple pants? Mix warm and cool colours.
I first thought it was a close up of embroidered silk .The lights have made some beautiful colour patterns on the sculptures, which I have just had to look up as I was so intrigued.
It is definitely a tough time of year to find color outside, but don't forget you've probably got a host of colorful things in your home. I still think you accomplished your goal though. Nice shot.
This is a lovely, restful mage.., the colours seem comfortable in each others presence. So well done.. you have achieved colour harmony! As for the time of year, in the UK what a crazy month to do this challenge! Although on bright summer days the colours can really offend my eyes!
i won't claim any knowledge of colour harmony but all i know is that i won't wear stark green with neon orange or i will look like aquaman or whichever superhero wears those colours. so i will just say "aces!"
@lsquared glad it is not just me. Thank you for your comment. @suzanne234 Bedford has a history of lacemaking and the patterns on the sculpture are representing that. I have featured the sculpture a few times in my project since I walk past it several times a day. @onewing thank you Babs. the predominant lighting on the sculpture colours it cobolt blue, this is just one corner. @olivetreeann I'm not wanting to use the incamera flash for my photography which I would need to do for most of the tie I am at home at this time of year. I should - perhaps - practice as results are never good. @cruiser thank you Chris. All metal - no silk! glad you like it. @taffy the pattern is an acknowledgement of the lace making history of Bedford. several have seen silk in this. @yrhenwr thank you David - colour harmony courtesy of Bedford Borough Council and Debenhams first floor office lighting! I always feel guilty when the colours of nature offend my eyes - but it does sometimes happen. @ethelperry yes Ethel, there are some colours at home (although maybe less than people imagine - we have a lot of neutrals - but I also need daylight - which is when I am at work. @kjarn thank you Kathy. @ivan thanks Ivan @gaylewood thank you Gayle. The overlay seemed to take away the flatness of the image. @summerfield then you know enough! thanks. @wag864 a natural aptitude to match colours is much better than a constant referral to colour wheels and the like! I'm only looking them up because of the challenge @stephanies thank you Stephanie. I was grateful for the contrasting colour provided by Debenhams first floor lighting reflected in the sculpture.
