Four Go Off On A Hike by helenmoss

Four Go Off On A Hike

There was a gap for today so I'm filling in with another picture from tomorrow's walk with three friends and four dogs. We strolled for hours in glorious spring sunshine in the lovely countryside south of Newmarket, where the mainstay of the economy is the famous racetrack - lots of stud farms, racehorses and very swish mansions.

On our way home we were looking for a pub for lunch and pulled over at the village stores to ask where the nearest pub was. All at once we were invited into the shop, where there was a small sandwich and coffee bar tucked away in a corner. The lovely ladies made us sandwiches to order, teas and coffees (not to mention pork pies and cakes). There were even little tables set up outside where we sat in the sun.
As a child, I loved Enid Blyton's Famous Five books, and I was always enthralled at the idea there were shops and houses dotted around the countryside, all with a sign in the window saying "Minerals" - where the kids would stop on their bikes, and the rosy-cheeked shopkeeper lady would sell them glasses of lemonade and make them picnic hampers (complete with hard boiled eggs and salt in a twist of paper!). It took me a while to figure out that 'minerals' meant soft drinks, rather than geological specimens.

When we called at this shop, it felt like being in a Famous Five book.
Thank you ladies of the Moulton Post Office Stores for making our day!

@snowy Didn't I mention I'd invented time travel? It comes in very handy. I meant it was tomorrow from the 21st which is where I stuck this picture to fill in a gap in my calendar!

Wahey - those sandwiches look good (again). Hadn't realised you were having a Famous Five moment - I would have been very suspicious of any passing tinkers
