036 - This attractive spot is at the side of the Dearne and Dove Canal in South Yorkshire. Once the area to the left of the shot would be occupied by barges of sand for the neighbouring glassworks. The apartment block is on the site of a former public house. Now this stretch of canal is used for fishing, and there is a swan busy nestbuilding. Quite a transformation!

Yes I was - most of the day spent gardening at mum's in Swinton. This shot was on the walk from the railway station to her house. It wasn't the most direct way to walk, but I thought it worth it to enjoy this bit of country in the town. - and thank you for your comment on the photo.

The glass works being next to the river --or canal, is the same setup as in York, many moons ago.

Yes, you are right - there are several places where glassworks had their sand delivered by water. I believe that Rotherham used to be the same. Not sure where the sand would come from - it was a particular type of sand used for making glass. Perhaps I will investigate when I get back home.
