181 - On 2nd September 2011 my youngest daughter Lucy left home for the third year of her degree, but this was a departure with a difference because she was to spend the first half of her year in Bilbao, northern Spain, and the second half in Geneva, Switzerland.
It wasn't an easy year for either her or us, but she has learned so much, and had such great opportunities to use her language skills.
This calendar contains 12 of her photos from Spain. I presume we might see 12 of her Swiss photos in a 2013 calendar!
Nice capture Ian and a great way of remaining in contact. So many ways for young people to gain an education these days. I assume you've seen her during that year away.
Thank you Tony. We saw her for a short time early in December, then she spent some time at home in February, since the University terms don't correspond between Spain and Switzerland. I had a couple of weeks with her in Geneva in April, and she finally came home towards the end of June. She's now getting ready to go back to Lancaster University for her final year later this month.
Thank you Marie - it's a great idea to be able to do a calendar of your own photos - I might steal her idea for next year - perhaps a 365 highlights calendar!
Thank you Jean. She's finished her year abroad now and is preparing to return to Lancaster for her final year at University. I think she really benefited from her experiences!
Great opportunities and great challenges, but she really did benefit from the experience!

Thank you Lizzy - the calendar is a great reminder of the time she spent in Spain!
Thank you Junan, it has great memories for her!
Thank you Michele - it was a year of great challenge and opportunity and I think she really benefited from it!
Thank you Debra - it was my daughter's idea, and it became calendar Christmas presents for her grandparents and sister, as well as for us!

Thank you Brian - she also has several thousand photos as a keepsake, and I took well over 2000 shots when I visited her in Geneva in April!
Her year proved to be a great learning experience, as well as being character building!
Thank you Roslyn - but not satisfied with the calendar, she is now working on a scrap book!
Thank you Lynne - but she probably has more than enough of her own shots of the walls. Interestingly, few have made it onto her project (@lucycakes)
