247 - I've included a shot of this ghost sign before - http://365project.org/if1/365/2012-10-17 - when it was looking a little neglected. Well, following a newspaper article and appeal for funds, the £1600 to restore it was quickly raised.
I was fortunate to spot an article in yesterday's newspaper saying that work had started on restoration, so after lunch today a quick trip to town to catch work in progress, so here is the almost complete result!
I have a shot of this last year LOL ~ it is looking very bright now! ~ I didnt look into what they were so thanks for posting the info on the original shot
I'm SO glad to see this being restored! As a native Yorker it brings back so many memories, nice to see other people feel the same way! Thanks for making the special trip to take this photo!
Ah, a restored mural! A little agitation can sometimes bring good results. Have you considered a collage of before and after? This one needs a bit of weathering, which will surely come...
Thank you KWind - I was fortunate with the timing - half an hour later and it would have been in the shade, so I was pleased to catch it with the sun on it
Thank you Bob - I was thinking that if I could get another shot from the same angle as the first one, it might be fun trying to merge the new and old into a composite image.
Oh interesting. Although I'm not sure about it. I think I prefer these signs as ghosts. I wonder if there's plans for the Leeds one? Its not in such a nice part of town...
Thank you Ruth - Sales of Bile Beans finished in the mid 1980s, so no I haven't tried them. Not sure I fancy the idea either!
Thank you Alison - it needs a few months poor weather to make it look a bit more subdued!
Thank you Kd - it's certainly a lot brighter!

Thank you Pyrrhula, I agree, it would have been a shame not to restore it.
Thank you Jen - but I'm afraid you are too late to test them. Sales were finished in the mid 1980s
Thank you Louise - I was pleased to go and take this, it gave me a break from the shopping that my wife was doing!
Thank you Janet - it does look smart now.
Thank you Carol, glad you like it!
Thank you KWind - I was fortunate with the timing - half an hour later and it would have been in the shade, so I was pleased to catch it with the sun on it

Thank you Alison. I'm not sure if restoration is always a good idea, but it seems that York's ghost signs do get restored - http://365project.org/if1/365/2012-10-19 and http://365project.org/if1/365/2012-10-21 are good examples
Thank you Petaqui. This was once a very popular way of advertising.
