305 - I last included a shot of Micklegate Bar in bright sunny conditions in summer ( http://365project.org/if1/365/2012-08-29), but here it is again, this time after dark. A brief history of this structure was included with the earlier shot.
I set out to take shots of a number of floodlit buildings around York - places like the Minster and other parts of the city walls, but sadly the floodlights that glowed brightly before Christmas have been turned off on some of the buildings. It looks like austerity has hit town!
Lovely shot - I like the upped contract resulting in the dark blue / purple sky - brings out the colour in the stone brickwork and gives the image that royal feeling :-D
Wow... Like this shot a lot. The lighting makes it very interesting. Reminds me of Disneyland here in the states. I had to look up the name as it is sort of similar to my last name. I see it means "great street."
Thank you Vesna, glad you like it!
Thank you Hazel - I'm certainly spoilt for choice with so many historic buildings!
Thank you Colin - as you say, the car gives scale - it's hard to imagine how tall the bar is without something to give it scale.
Thank you Judith - I took this a while after sunset and I was surprised just how much light there still was in the sky.
Thnk you Lee - we have lots of stone buildings here! Good luck with the night photography.
Thank you Pyrrhula - it is an imposing structure.
Thank you Sterling, it is nicely illuminated to allow night shots.
Thank you Christine, the council have made a good job of illuminating parts of the city walls.
Thank you Helen - I was a bit surprised how bright the sky came out!
Thank you Debra - it is an impressive entrance to the city.
Thank you Stevie - I will just have to get shots of the remaining illuminated buildings!
Thank you Bob, it is an impressive entrance to the city.
Thank you Roslyn, glad you like it. This was the royal entrance to the city in earlier centuries.
Thank you Ladyjane, the city council have made a good job of illuminating parts of the city walls.
Thank you Wini, that sky came out rather brighter than I expected. Nice to see you back on here again. Are we going to see more of your photos soon?
Thank you Tony, I do like the effect of the floodlighting on parts of the walls.
Thank you Githa - I was surprised how bright the sky came out!
Thank you Frank, glad you like it!
Thank you Tanja - I was a bit surprised just how bright the blue of the sky turned out.
Thank you Brian. This entrance to the city is the traditional entrance to the city for royalty, which is possibly the origin of its name.
Thank you Caren, glad you like it!
Thank you Kd, I was pleased with how it came out.
Thank you Bruni - there was a queue of cars, so had to wait for a gap in the traffic to include just one car!
