after the rain by jantan

after the rain

a sprinkling of rain after a long dry spell, a bit of early evening sunlight and a foxglove - three of my favourite things.
Beautiful shot.

My big success in the greenhouse this year has been foxgloves. I'm excited about next year!

They are definitely in my top 5 plants. And they grow in the shade! I grew loads from seed a couple of years ago and had loads last year. This is one of the ones that survived the winter. Have just put in 72 that I have grown on from plug plants this year. Reckon there are going to be lots of foxglove pics on 365 next year. @judithg

72!!! Wow! Well I'm pleased because a big plant is about £7.99 and they never self seed in my garden or if they do the slugs get them. I've got some organic wool-based slug repellent this year. Do you think I should put them in the greenhouse over winter?

I think we planted ours that we grew from seed out in the autumn Judith. I'll check with our gardener when he comes on Thursday. I think if you plant them out in the autumn they will flower earlier next year. Must admit although I grew them on and tended them this year I wasn't too involved with the actual planting out - about the worst thing for my neck. We do get a few self seed each year, and a few that survive the winter, but they never come up where you want them. I have just bought a few of the perennial ones that were on special offer, but still quite expensive. The damn dog wrecked a couple by standing on them within minutes of them going in. @judithg
