We finally had some rain so I went out to catch the last flowers with droplets.Keeping experimenting with artificial light and black and white for my mentoring group. I've never much liked high key, but it's fun to see what it does. Shot with on and off camera flashes.
Thanks much for your support, comments, suggestions, favs
I'm with you re high key. I think, for me, I'd prefer just a bit more contrast to bring out the distinction among the petals. I like the composition and have no suggestions for changes there.
I am not keen on high key shots as you seem to loose the detail. I can never work out when it's the right time to do that. I prefer the colour version of this rose.
@888rachel@taffy I have replaced my original based on your suggestions but I am totally perplexed with your comments re lack of detail since the histogram both for this photo after editing the first time as well as the primrose didn't show any clipping. To me this now looks a bit grey.
@jgpittenger Interesting! I do think there is more detail in the flower itself (going by memory, of course) but now it is more gray. The definitition I was talking about was more that the folds of the flower don't show up as clearly here as it does in the pink version, because in the color version, the deep pink gives it depth and thus the 'detail' I was referring to had more to do with the individual petals of the flower than the details within the flower. I hope this makes sense!
