Murre Rock by jgpittenger

Murre Rock

This is the big rock opposite the lighthouse where a huge colony of murres nest. They aren't very smart or aggressive so their babies often fall victim to eagles. The parents wander off when danger approaches and leave their babies vulnerable. They remind me a bit of small penguins in their fancy tuxedo outfits.
Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
Nice shot, I like the whole composition and the blue / black and white contrast

Not sure what a murr is, I have never heard of that name....google again!

I've not heard of Murres before -- nor their cavalier attitude toward their young. Good thing those seagulls are serving as monitors and guards! I like this composition -- it does make me think of penguins.

Quite some shot - I definitely wasn't familiar with these birds - unusual relationship with the little ones - my first guess might have been penguins. Looks great set up against the blue water background.

Great capture. Nature is so cruel at times.

Don't know these birds at all, but there's one heck of a lot of them there.

A fabulous shot, such a pity about the negligent parents though. I suppose that's life, fav!

What strange little birds - they do look like little penguins. I like all the different expressions on their faces.
