Sun Dog AT Sunset

Bets on black. I was absorbed in looking at your photos and making comments yesterday afternoon when Jim said "look!" I think this is called a sun dog though I have forgotten what causes them. The photo doesn't do it justice.

@jgpittenger I think in the winter it always seems to be cloudy without any sun, whether its raining or not. When I lived in New Mexico, we got sun dogs quite often because there was sun and clouds. That’s just my guess.
