Trees- reflection- ocean

Yes, ocean. On one side of the area is a bridge which connects Orrs Island to Harpswell. The ocean surrounds the three islands on one side of the bridge and the peninsula on the other. So I was thrilled to get such nice reflections. I might have gotten carried away taking pictures on either side of the bridge. I'd played in color with a couple of shots but just wasn't pleased. So along comes @northy with her challenge to play with my new processing program (well I don't own it just demoing - maybe tomorrow I will purchase). Now in LR I have my own preset that I apply to all landscrapes. I call it "starting point" from this place I can tweak things to come up with something I like. So I applied my present and tweaked a little. Then took it into Silver Efex. There I applied my favorite so far - High Structure (harsh). Thought it brought the clouds out nicely. Tweaked that filter and then back to LR. Now I find coming out of Silver Efex there seems to be some noise so I tweaked that and then tweaked the dehaze function. Like the finished product.

@northy - well here is another.

fantastic shot and processing

this is great! you really got out some shine and sparkle in the reflection - very nicely done!

incidentally, i actually very rarely use the high structure preset in silver fx... it is a very good choice for landscapes, but i find it too harsh for some of the darker pieces i like to do...

@northy I don't like it for a darkish sky either. But it has worked in a couple of my shots. SO glad you liked.

I liked the color one but I think this is much better with your B&W processing. Nice job.

Wow this is cool, love what you did with the clouds Joan!
Love it in b&w.
Glad you are explaining what you did I learned a few things, making a preset for landscape named starting point is great idea. I don't have an Silver Efex or Nik are these filters??? What is your new processing program?
January 6th, 2016
@radiogirl I am demoing the Nik collection which is why @northy gave me the challenge she did. I am going to buy it tomorrow I think. Not too pricey. Richard says I should process first in Silver Efex and then in LR so I am going to try that next time. I watched the you tube presentation of Anthony Morganti. Wrote down the initial steps he takes to process a Landscape and me the preset. Saves a lot of work. It is not too good on a dark picture. So I am trying to come up with a preset for that.

Well done!

You certainly gave the image some life Joan. The reflections are fantastic.

Absolutely gorgeous! Love it in black-and-white.

Beautiful reflection! The black and white really brings out the symmetry and the lines of the landscape.

Looks great!!

Lovely processing on this shot, Joan. Wonderful reflections.

Fabulous! FAV!

So clear and crisp. Love it!

Fantastic processing!! I love the silvery glassy feel of that water! Your Nik package should have come with Dfine. I run all my photos thru that after LR's sharpening and luminance tweaks (plus any other editing I do in LR) to clean up the noise. Makes a huge difference. What is the dehaze function in LR that you mentioned?
January 13th, 2016
@shesnapped Haven't tried dfine yet but the dehaze function is under effects in LR developing. Has some nice results sometimes.
January 13th, 2016
@joansmor The only thing I do with Dfine is export it, let it do its thing automatically, then save it. Takes maybe 15 seconds and no skill at all...

Another superbly processed shot and thank you for including your beginning shot.
Well done and a FAV!
