Phantom Ranch by joysabin

Phantom Ranch

This is the first time that I had the ranch pointed out to me and my little cyber shot came through. The ranch is a the bottom of the Grand Canyon so I am looking down over the rim at it. I think that it is about 1.5 miles down but takes a long time to get there (about 8 hours). I may find the courage to take the mule ride down but as for via my feet- probably not going to happen.
What a beautiful, amazing photograph. Fav

@megpicatilly Thank you so kindly for the fav. I really need to make the trek down.

@deborah63 The trails that go down are switchy. I am trying to train my knee so mabe I can half way down next fall.

A bit scary

looks so close! They says mules are very safe ... have a terrific sense of self-preservation, so they're not about to do anything dangerous

I don't do edges, so would never have been able to get that image. Congrats to you for doing so.

I was going to ask if this is real, but then I googled, and found out that it really is real. Amazing, and scary, too.

@365projectorgsebgritt Just a bit but the trail down is a lot of switch backs which makes it so long.

@francoise I need to talk my sister into taking the mules, my husband would poo poo it. I understand that you can tell who has taken the mules down by the way that they walk at the ranch. :)

@evalieutionspics The canyon has several not so scary edges but this one was only half scary to me. I am really learning to love the canyon.

@chard I didn't either, I was so happy to see it because that might be all I get if I can't talk my sister into the mule ride. I believe we were close to Yaki Point on the south rim.

@bkbinthecity Thank you so much, the I was so happy to see the ranch from the top of the south rim. Actually I was gobsmacked.

@octogenarian Thank you so kindly for the fav. I am making a strong effort to do things and just think about doing them. I am so very lucky to live near this canyon and I need to explore and experience it.

What an incredible place to have a ranch but it most pose some practical difficulties... no difficulties at all with this image though ;-))

@vignouse It is a strange name for a place that near impossible for most to get to but it is considered an honor to have made the hike in and out. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_Ranch) I have made my mind up about doing the mule ride down, when I do this I will most definitely post on 365.

Oh my gosh, 8 hours to get down there.... how long would it take to get back up again? It's an interesting view, strange that there are so many trees on the ground level.

@stephanies It is a totally different climate down in the canyon. As for getting back up, for me a whole week. :)
