As I garner more experience in life (aka getting older) I know that balance should be practiced. I am a firm believer in the practical, no matter how silly or strange. I do a series of morning balance moves, okay, sometimes tilting a bit but, I am getting better at staying upright.
This is a 2-fer, Dogwood week No 19 - aging (the grey hair shines ever so in the morning sun- yuck!) and Pictures of Myself, also week 19 - balance.
Also, going south for a few days, not sure if the air BnB has wifi. I will try to post if I can.
@shannejw I used to work in a retirement community as saw first hand how important the little things can be. It took the perspective of seeing how having good balance keeps one safe and out of the PT department.
I do yoga every day for similar reasons - and need to find ways of adding to it. And making sure I can sit down without using my hands and standing up again, from cross-legged usually - although not so easily in the jeans I'm wearing.
Love that you used the lensbaby for this! I know what you mean. I do the treadmill 6 days a week to try to keep strong legs. But I need to do strengthening of other areas like arms. Balance too.
Am totally sympa with this approach. Before I get in the shower, l do some floor exercises...from memory or if not I improvise, until I get bored (very quickly). After breakfast Mitzi and I generally take a walk around the Grotte at Paimpont and then have coffee in the bourg with 2 friends and their dogs....and we take a brisk 20 minute walk back to the cars. I go to Gym Volontaire in the village once a week; a 1hour professionally supervised session for all ages. No hassle, everyone is encouraged to do the best they can. There is no judgement...our oldest member is 90+. It works well. I was pleasantly surprised and bemused at the end of the last academic year to receive a medal for 15 years continuous membership!
Thankfully my brain is more balanced than the rest of me- but I hope to improve once my knee issues are addressed. Good for you though. It really is important to stay on top of our health the, uh (whisper) the older we get!
@shannejw I walk a great deal, 70-80miles per month. I love it, Staying active is a priority for me. I may not walk as fast as my pup wants me to but, my pace is best, anyway :):):)
@jernst1779 Good for you!. I need to mix up my exercises. I would like to get back on my bike, good for my knee.
@yaorenliu My balance is better than it used to be. I usually do this inside but the sun was shinning.
@s4sayer How great that there is the Gym Volontaire. Way to GO on the 15 years!!! We have the privilege of paying for gym access-which I shy away from since I am basically a klutz in any group session. I do Tai Chi at home and bounce on my rebounder to fun silly songs. I am a fan of making exercise fun, that way I actually do it.
@robz Thank you so much. The zoom effect is from the lensbaby for my iPhone. I wouldn't be able to do anything that fancy and stay upright. :):)
@fbailey Thank you so much. Hiding within the blur is a favorite selfie for me.
@samae Thank you a lot. These little lenses for the iPhone are fun to play around with.
@olivetreeann Hope your knee gets back to where it 'behaves' soon. Mine is what it is, I grab a brace as needed. After being hit by a car back in 2015 I made a promise to myself to keep moving. I also look upon it as a blessing in disguise. I now pay attention much more to my health and strength- hence the moniker of "walks@7", "Never give up, never surrender" from the movie Galaxy Quest.
I love walking and do walk around that amount just living as I don't have a car. I would normally be trying to up my walking but it's rare I can get out at the moment
