NF SOOC No 1

Almost didn't make it today. I wanted to give the challenge by Richard @vignouse a try. ( https://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/30294/nf-sooc-september-2017). I got my lens adapter for my other Sony A-mount lenses, UPS showed up rather late. This old Minolta AF50 lens now fits and works on my new A6000. The camera wouldn't recognize the old lens so there is no fstop or focal length in the image details. I played with many different shutter speeds, ending up with 1.6 seconds. I used a reading light to hi-light the Konica range finder but still caught the blur of the second hand on my GraLab timer. Hope to do more tomorrow with the manual setting on the A6000 16-50mm lens and also play with this old Minolta AF lens.

I wanted so much to tweek the background oopses but left them alone. To paraphrase Horton the Elephant from Dr. Seuss, 'A promise is a promise no matter how frustrating'
I followed the link and got curious. What does SOOC stand for? And does this challenge mean that one must use a 50 mm lens and not post-process the image? Can I use the automatic settings, or must it all be done manually?

I like your shot, and I like the old Konica.

It is so difficult not to 'tweak'! I like the little second hand moving.

@octogenarian Hi, sooc stands for straight out of camera, no edits. My only 50mm prime lens is this old AF minolta. I just figured out that I can't adjust the fstop when I use it with this new mirrorless camera.. Not sure that I like that bit. oh, well shot and learn.

@pistache Thanks for the follow. Horton was always my hero, somewhat duffie but always true to himself. I am liking composing in b&w, it is a good challenge for me.

@megpicatilly The luminescence of the dial just wasn't enough to give the Konica any substance so I had to use the little reading light.

What an appropriate way to start your challenge - I like this a lot.

Brilliant shot! Fav! Now, when I use old lenses on my Pentax K5 I can set the aperture ring so that old lenses then allow me to change the f stop. First a setting in the menu about the aperture ring, then I set this ring to A on the lens and that allows me to change the f stop electronically. Maybe yours has something equivalent?

@vignouse Thank you, truly appreciate it. The lens that I used is an old AF Minolta isn't recognized by this new Sony so changing the fstop is a no-go. Technology is a real bear at times. -:) -:)

@yrhenwr Your are very kind, thank you for the fav.At present I only have a manual adapter. I thought about changing the aperture using another camera, then switching lens to the A6000 but that sounds very labor intensive and a series of steps that I might not want to do a lot. I am not giving up but might have to invest in a more expensive adapter. Technology issues to be continued....

Very nice. Makes me want to dig out my old darkroom timer!

Nice camera! My Graylab has seen better days, still ticks but no buzz....The Hexanon lenses are superb, Hexar AF is legendary but only 250 max shutter speed....I have a similar camera the Olympus 35RC. I have had trouble getting sharp images with it, probably from impatience and user error....
