I’m lucky that I haven’t been living alone during the various lockdown variations but I am really noticing the lack of social contact with others at the moment. I’m not complaining because it’s necessary and I’m also aware that there are people currently exhausted by the work required to overcome the pandemic - but there is a definite absence. We are isolating at the moment in the hope that Nigel may be able to get his knee fixed later in the week but I did have to do a post Christmas grocery top up today. I decided to walk to Sainsbury’s in the new development of Eddington as I know Covid cases are low over that way and didn’t plan on buying much, but as usual I got sucked in and bought more than I could comfortably carry so I was happy to put the bags down and get out my phone to catch the kestrel that was hovering right overhead. If I hadn’t already broken my ‘always take proper camera when doing 365’ rule I’d have caught some amazing photos as it was really very close. Good job the sky was pretty.
Weather: wintry showers
Covid: local cases 150% up on last week 😞
Highlight of the day: discovering Marmite hummus
@newbank it’s a thing I just bought in Sainsbury’s! Haven’t tried it yet and I am recalling the major disappointment that Marmite peanut butter was responsible for - but potentially magnificent!
I keep checking the “number of cases in your area” on the BBC website and keep scaring myself with the numbers continually increasing on the week before. This kestrel flying alone on a dismal day Sort of catches the essence of how many feel just now. Awaiting 8pm for more news on how the country is to tackle this thing!
Socially distanced Kestrel! I need to do a post Christmas shop tomorrow but will go local, daren't go anywhere too busy although booths is on the ball re precautions. I think it will be restricted outdoor exercise, no travelling, schools closed & just lie low, pretty much what we are doing now in tier 4. Will be good to have a decision on schools.
Love the isolated bird. We have a very strickt lockdown as well. Almost no shops open. And we feel the isolation. But we hope it will all be better soon.
A perfect illustration of isolation.
That 150% increase in case numbers is concerning. Is that a result of Christmas gatherings, the new more contagious variant, or both? Are your hospitals being overwhelmed? Hoping Nigel is able to have his knee surgery/procedure as scheduled.
@peggysirk my thoughts are that it’s the new strain that went round schools just before Christmas. The families I know with it have teenage children. Our hospitals are pretty full (we’re lucky to have the general hospital plus a national heart/lung hospital) because we’ve been taking overflow from areas to the south as well as local cases I believe. Looks like the op is still on (private hospital down the road - luckily we had insurance though the private sector went over to supporting the nhs in lockdown 1 so we weren’t sure - we won’t be sure till it’s done!)
I can so relate. This is how I feel. I am in quarantine from being exposed when my neighbor fell and her husband asked me to help get her up. I used her phone to call an ambulance, without thinking. Turns out she has COVID, has been in the hospital for a week. I get tested on Thursday but am feeling fine. No walking with friends. Just the dog. And he doesn’t talk much!
@bkp oh no! So easy to do in a crisis. It’s the knowing that you CAN’T meet anybody that’s the problem. I did have a shouty across space chat with a dog walker in the park today just in case she lives alone (& because she had a cute dog!)
