Malcolm Street has some handsome Victorian terraces built about 1842. As far as I can tell they’ve always been owned by Jesus College and as such have never been individually modified or spoiled in any way. They currently have students living in them who aren’t allowed to individualise them either. The street is named after Malcolm IV King of Scotland. He was also known as Malcolm the Maiden but apparently we shouldn’t interpret that in a modern way - he was very interested in knighthood and warfare and involved in a few campaigns helping Henry II before dying from ill health at the age of 24. He was also a benefactor to St Radegund’s nunnery - St Radegund’s Priory was the forerunner to Jesus College.
We were back in the area in the evening for a very good curry at the newly refurbished Raja Restaurant which seems to have been too successful as the owner who is getting on a bit said really they’re too busy and it doesn’t matter which night of the week!
