Community Fridge day today and yet again I forgot to take a photo which is doubly bad because in my new supervisory role I’m supposed to organise photos for the Facebook page. Anyway there was a queue round the block despite not advertising our wares. We also had rather random veg supplies with basics missing which is a worry as Waitrose also had gaps in their veg supplies - no courgettes or aubergines for weeks apparently which I assume is due to the big delays at the EU border. We’ll have to revert to seasonal food and make do with turnips in January at this rate. Probably good for environment. Was v glad of a cup of tea by 2pm.
Weather: in theory a bit less cold though when the wind got up the queue was declaring that the weather forecasters had lied.
Covid: distressed Fridge visitor desperately worried about her friend (& another of our regulars) who is in dire straits. So dreadful but numbers are dropping.
Good thing: one of our visitors read my name on my apron and announced that her 27 year old daughter is called Judith - that’s the first I’ve heard of under 50 - it’s time for a renaissance as despite being a sixties favourite it is also biblical and therefore, theoretically not subject to fashion!
Lovely image of your work station! Funny that you mention aubergines - I couldn't get any here for a few days.Got some today though, and they were very expensive!
I absolutely agree about the name! Bring it on - but I expect it will come back as Judy - or Jude! Nice shot and well done with the volunteering, very commendable.
I cheered when Christine & Frank Lampard called their baby daughter Patricia..I thought here comes a revival....not only women my age only called Patricia but none have materialised yet!
Interesting re the veg, can’t say I have noticed but there again I’m not buying aubergines or courgettes much, not my favourite.
Lovely to see your homely kitchen....daffodils at this time if the year are the nicest...I’m missing all the lovely things in life like that at the moment. Fed up with damp walls & mouldy bathroom carpet!
Nice pic of everyday life. I have been lamenting the lack of aubergines because they, along with courgettes have been one of the mainstays of my diet for the past few months (some serious low carb dieting going on here.) Talk about a first world problem for me, when I read about people needing food banks and the other awfulness that is going on.
As a Janet, I completely get you..... can't think of ever meeting another under the age of 50 too.
@jantan Janets are due a revival! I stood in Waitrose surrounded by food and told myself off for being disappointed about courgettes 😊. I did have all the other ingredients though.... Yesterday would suggest that grapefruits are getting in though!
Uh oh, that is my page you are viewing instead of doing your duties! Busted! I am enjoying the glimpses into people’s homes, what a lovely kitchen you have Judith...very inviting..and I love your dafs and your mug! And NOBODY is named Barbara anymore!
Would love to see a photo of your Community Fridge. It sounds as though your services are much needed and appreciated these days. No surprise there. Thank goodness for community outreach during these tough times. You are doing such good works!
Doubtful that 'Peggy' will ever make a comeback. Although I have seen more young 'Margaret's. The older I get the more I appreciate my given name and wish I'd not been pegged with a nickname. :)
