Moonrise over the A14

We went up to my hometown of Preston for the funeral of my mum’s younger cousin and I forgot to take photos until the journey home when there was briefly a massive moon as it rose over the horizon. Thanks to @peggysirk I could tel Nigel that it was the Flower Supermoon but I didn’t get my phone out quick enough to get it at its peak. It was very sad to say goodbye to Anne because she was a real character and we’ve lost a trio of matriarchs over the last few years. Already I’m finding there are things I should have asked them. On the other hand, as is the way with these occasions, it was good to catch up with family who we don’t see often enough.

Weather: lovely up north
Covid: distancing good at the crematorium, pretty terrible at the venue afterwards so thank goodness for vaccinations and low case rates.
Good thing: Nigel who drove many miles for me yesterday.
So sorry for your loss. It is a sad realization that now my sister is the matriarch of our family, sad because we are still kids, even though she is 72. What a lovely sky, such soft colors...a moment of panic that you were on the wrong side of the road!

@bkp yes Nigel has jokingly announced that the new matriarch is my big sister at 58 - I’m not sure she wants to take on the responsibility!

A sad occasion where we inevitably feel slightly guilty for enjoying ourselves meeting family again. I’m sure your Ann would have loved the meet up too! I suppose I’m the matriarch in our family!! I never thought myself as such until now.
I’ve never even looked for the moon I’m afraid.

We've had a couple of family covid crem funerals in the last 6 months with no "wakes" after. I preffered not having a "wake" to having a "wake". nice moon judith

And a beautiful Flower Moon it is rising out of that awesome bank of pink clouds! A fabulous moon shot. Love it!
My condolences on the death of your cousin Anne. My wild tribe of siblings is close to being the elders in our family. We need to start working on being wise and responsible.

So sorry for your loss, Judith. Funerals are always full of sadness but also of joy in other ways, thankfully.

Am sorry to hear it hun, it's very sad indeed. I hope you raise a glass to her tonight.
Your family geography sounds like mine, moving around and family scattered, so even though a sad occasion, am glad you got to see some loved ones x
