This is my daughter's 'Nutcase' cycle helmet. In the summer, when Adam was out skateboarding everyday, I was ready for the 'hospital' call. I was surprised though when it came from Rachel who had gone over her handlebars cycling to the park with friends. She was OK - calling me AFTER they'd eaten cake for two hours but couldn't straighten her arm. It turned out she'd broken her elbow but she also landed on her head which was unscathed because, unusually for a 16yr old, she was wearing a cycle helmet (in fact she'd dished out helmets to all her friends!). Taking advice from the manufacturers we replaced the helmet and she chose this one - American I think and I shopped around to get a reasonable price but it's lovely - and inside it says, 'Love your brain'.
A boy in her year at school died today about a week after being hit by a car while cycling. I don't know if he had a helmet - he was hit on a fast road - a helmet was probably not enough - they had a very sad day. So I love this 'Nutcase' - it's cool and funky and most of all I love that she wears it.
Gosh, you would imagine the pain from her elbow would have been bad,the cake must have been good LOL Glad she is a sensible girl, and that is a cool helmet.
So sorry to hear about the boy - but happy that you are able to capture this picture because of your sensible daughter. Good for her. Love the focus on the helmet. Nice.
Love this pic - it has a nice retro colour tone to it somehow and the focusing is great - and that helmet is so jolly. Totally with you on the importance of them - no, of course they can't save someone in a really serious accident but they do help prevent more serious injury. Love the cake story.
