I wish I'd taken a bit more time and got the focus spot on here but there's only so long you can keep a dog waiting and I wasn't really sure what I was taking until I got home and looked on the computer! These are Six-Spot Burnet moths hatching out of their cocoon and turning immediately to, well, their siblings for mating purposes. They then have a short life span, lay their eggs and die. Ho hum - they do have some pretty scabious and knapweed to hang around on during the day. They spend winter as quite a funky caterpillar.
That sounds a bit near the bone & interbred , what a life !! You have got a fantastic shot of these moths though & it is interesting what you learn on this project..did you have to look that up, or was it something that just rolled off your tongue !!!! Great capture Judith !
Aren't they beautiful - I just noticed your picture of these guys, as I took a similar picture on my walk yesterday and it was my dead cert for posting, until Maia posed among the clover for me!
