A few pics from the May Bumps. I'll do a quick blog next week but essentially the boats line up one behind the other and then try to hit the one in front before getting bumped from behind. The pics on the left are waiting to go down to the start and at the bottom the cox of the boat in front has her hand up to concede a bump. Don't forget that the rowers face backwards so they are coming towards us in that photo and although the cox with her hand up is smiling they've just lost! The boats both pull into the side while the other rowers go past - the bumpers adorn themselves with branches while the bumped lick their wounds!! Bigger versions will be in the blog!
@bpaquette Oh they do - usually because they get rowed onto the bank in the panic after a bump but there was one lost its rudder today - they were having an interesting time getting it back to the boathouse...
Great explanation, just like the bumper cars at Blackpool only a lot more upmarket! You were a light weight when young Judith, lucky you! Love this collage & those girls must be so proud to wear the tee shirt!
Thanks for the explanation - I'd heard the expression 'Bumps Week' but never knew the detail. Tis a good collection in the collage - excellent back views ;-)
