TV Coverage

There's been some discussion over her about the way the Olympics are being perceived abroad. Apparently NBC has come under criticism for too many ad breaks and not enough live events but the studio in the park is open to view and has been a hive of activity. The USA Gold medal-winning rowing women's 8 were visiting when I took this but sadly (for all the men out there) I couldn't get a clean shot. The nice Aussie man smooth-talked one of the helpers into letting him do a piece to camera during the game (I'm pretty sure the Olympic Broadcasting people wouldn't have allowed that). He was very friendly and we had a bit of banter - sadly it was before the 'unfortunate' gold medal performance had become apparent or we could have had some real fun! I don't know who either of them are but if I was in the presence of greatness please let me know!!
NBC didn't broadcast the 100m final until 6 hours after the event, apparently

fun shots

@shannew Hmmm - rather misses the point that!

When I heard what the Russian lady had commented, I thought 'Is she on the same planet?!' I really hope that GB is coming over well on the foreign channels, becasue I think we'e done really amazingly to get this up and running! I began as a complete cynic of the whole thing! Great couple of shots of 'behind the scenes'.

My Twitter feed is full of people in the US really quite upset that most of it isn't being shown live (lots of "we can get a pic from Mars in 15 minutes, but it takes 6 hours from London" type comments). I'm not the slightest bit interested in any of it, and even I'm shocked NBC didn't deem the to show the 100m final live.

@Cherrill What did she say Cherrill - do tell?! I'm a bit disappointed so far that nobody has rushed in to tell me I've met famous people - @peggysirk likes her sport - any ideas Peggy or are you heading for S. Carolina and the golf?!

@humphreyhippo yeah - another international internet board I belong to NBC is really getting abuse - which is how I know - the same board that got me on here in the first place

Great behind the scenes shot, Judith! The woman on the left is Natalie Morales, the head news reader for NBC's "The Today Show" out of NY. It's the major morning news show int the US. The man behind her is Al Roker, the chief meteorologist for the show. The coverage has been delayed, but i think it's been mostly because people have been at work while the events are going on. They give the results with a "spoiler alert" They'll tell you to step away from the TV if you don't want to hear the results. They show all the major event on a tape delay during prime time. Allie Raisman, a gymnast who's a local Boston area girl competed yesterday in the morning, your time. I found out she won a gold medal, but still watched the event during prime time.

Nice tv Coverage judith.:-).

@sparkleplenty1 Ooh thanks Joyce!! They were very friendly and clearly enjoying the games so I'm sure any failings in coverage (if there are any) are not due to them!
August 8th, 2012
@judithg BTW, Judith - NBC is giving rave reviews to the London Olympics - we're all very impressed!
August 8th, 2012
@sparkleplenty1 Oh that's nice!! They are the best venue on the Park after the sport! The BBC are quite elevated so not nearly so accessible. They are giving wall to wall coverage though - you can watch absolutely everything as it happens...

I'm finding watching the Olympics frustrating as I want English commentary not Hebrew. It's just not the same in a language you can't really understand.
August 8th, 2012
Is that Al Roker behind Natalie Morales? It is frustrating that we are missing so many live events, but I have enjoyed watching!
August 8th, 2012
@groovygirlrn I can't believe how famous your weatherman is - I nearly cropped him out!!
August 8th, 2012
Cool shots. I've not seen any coverage given I don't have a tv but I'm enjoying seeing it and hearing about it on 365

By the well, tell Monty I have lots of feet wet spots for him here if he'd like to come visit!
August 8th, 2012
Yes the woman used to be in Dallas and the man was in Neighbours :D

Very interesting, Judith. Great captures. Joyce above described the people on the left very well.

Came back to see what the resuts of this were...... @johnnyfrs Thak you for my first laugh o the day!! Judith, re my comment about a Russian's comment, i was a bit confused.......I was referring to a comment made that outside the Olympic Park GB didn't even know the Olympics was on,etc etc.....she got a lot of abuse on Twitter! I guess their weather man is as famous as Michael Fish! lol
August 9th, 2012
@peterdegraaf Any idea about the bloke?!
August 9th, 2012
Judith ...@Cherrill .......I wonder if that weather man is saying...."Earlier on today apparently a woman rang the BBC and said she had heard that there was a hurricane on the way.
Well if you are watching, don't worry there isn't............it's just the aftermath of GB winning all those medals" ...:)
