Action!

The best I could do I'm afraid! They were filming for the new spy drama 'Restless' again today. This is a funeral scene outside the Chapel at St John's. They walked up towards the chapel door, shook hands, kissed etc and 'Cut!' They were filming this scene when I walked past on my way in to town and doing it again on the way back.... The Extras here all seemed to have taken their shoes off while they were waiting which makes me think that most of them were wearing the wrong sizes. They still did a realistic looking job of meeting and greeting so definitely some acting skill required. Apparently the story is set in Oxford but the directors said that it's been used too much for filming and they like Cambridge people...of course they do - who wouldn't?! It's going to be shown on BBC1 at the end of the year and will no doubt be sold around the world so I hope you can all spot this scene! It has a star-studded cast including Michael Gambon and Michelle Dockery of Downton Abbey fame so it should be good.
Stunning gate Judith, the work that has gone into that!!!! The pale stone shows up beautifully, almost like lace & I like the illusion through the wrought iron, where they filming a funeral, every one is in black?

that looks great through the gates, interesting effects

Nice one. I wonder if being an actor is an interesting job. I watched a scene on my street once and it seemed to involve a lot of repeats and standing around...

@happypat It's even fancier on the top but I had to crop it a bit to see anything through. Yes - a funeral... @fueast Extremely tedious I reckon - only the props people seem to do anything. Mind you I couldn't remember the lines - I've had to look up the title three times and now I come to think of it I think I may have the book somewhere - it's by William Boyd - I suppose I should read it!

I will certainly look out for the woman behind the gates with the camera!

@caddick I know - it would be great to just sneak into the shot!!

@judithg Looks like (apart from the camera and 'sensible' shoes) you'd need a black suit too!

A fantastic gate which gives an air of mystery to the shot and I like the restricted colour palette.

Love the gate - and very appropriate for being locked out of seeing what they are up to.

What a fabulours gate and cool to have a preview from "she who was locked outside" Liked your three things on the other shot too

Good screening with the curly-cue bits. I loved Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Crawley.

What a great perspective... love the fence... a rather lovely boundary between the actors and the paparazzi!

Great POV!

Did you watch it in the end? Were you as infuriated as me by their mis-use of famous Cambridge landmarks?!
December 29th, 2012
@katharinehubbard Yes super confusing!! Enjoyed it but very confused by the blatant reassignment of locations & the Bader Meinhoff connection!

@judithg Was very odd - why would you get permission to film and walk on the grass in John's and then claim it was somewhere else?! Think the Senate House Passage as London was the real shocker though!
December 29th, 2012
@katharinehubbard Yes that was quite bizarre. You could forgive them using the Park Parade houses but Senate House Passage?! And they stuck that random 'St James's Church' sign on St John's! I realised eventually that none of the war scenes were actually supposed to be in Cambridge. I think the modern parts of the book were set in Oxford - we don't mind leaving them out - all their decent bits have already been in Morse!
