Small tortoiseshell butterflies on ?? plant. It's a wild area but it's not impossible that it's escaped from a garden...About 6 ft tall and probably the same across but there were several plants next to each other. Scented.

That was my first thought - very small flowers and late flowering - is it a wild one?

well, it's not easy to get a good look at the flowers or leaves in this shot, and plants are not my strongest point, but it sounds it could be privet?

Yes I thought lilac but maybe it's a bit late for lilac. Lovely shot of the butterfly though.

Judith I sure it's Privet flowers, they have a very heady scent.

Very pretty if it's privet.....looks too waxy for lilac somehow......but just look at that butterfly.....couldn't have a better mix of colours there!

A lovely composition and great capture of the butterfly, especially with all the detail on the antennae.
