I am posting this in Extras today as I took it last week in St Cuthbert's church on Lindisfarne. It was beautifully decorated for the anniversary of the start of WW1. It just makes me think how people had no idea what was ahead and that I am very lucky to have a 17 year old son and 18 year old nephew in 2014 not 1914.
I agree. I watched the program on TV last night about WW1 and I cried at the end after hearing the stories of the heroes who fought for all that we take for granted - our freedom! Some of them died in the 1990s and one of them lived until 2001. Some were only 25 or 16 when they signed up for the PALS forces as they lied about their age. I cannot imagine what they went through - true heroes that we must never forget. A fitting tribute in this image
Lindisfarne is such a magical place to visit. So nice to see they've decorated it to commemorate the war. You're so right about being lucky to be living in 2014.
Beautiful Judith & it would be even more poignant on Lindisfarne.....every thing becomes simpler on that island so would be amazing to go in that church off the lonely shore & see this display. We are so lucky to live in the age we do.....in this country anyway, still so much trouble around the world.
Absolutely stunning and a wonderful way to acknowledge those who served in that war. Yes, I'm thankful, too, that neither my husband nor my son have had to serve. My son in law was in the Air Force for 12 years and served in the Gulf War.
