I've realised that I have to look for orange in the undergrowth not blue. I do have a blurred flying off shot though that demonstrates exactly how amazing that blue is.
oo well caught. Stunning birds aren't they. And fast!

Wow great capture. We do have a kingfisher on the local lake but can I spot him at rest. Just see the Orange flash at high speed .

What a fantastic capture. Kingfishers are so fast, I often see the flash of blue as they fly by but have never, ever managed a photo of one. My day will come I'm sure! This one is a female - you may already know? Males beaks are all black, the female have an orange lower beak.

You are lucky to get a shot at all - how nice to see him

@roachling I didn't know that. I think in my brain somewhere I assumed females were a duller version but I should have known that they're not because this lady is one of a pair that 'work' the river along here - I've seen them both moving up and downstream together.

Lucky you Judith, I have never seen a kingfisher in real life! To take a photo too is amazing alertness on your part!

Wow - lucky you! I think I saw one once at our river but it was just a flurry of blue passing by so I can't be sure. Great one for your bird collection ;)!
