Mr Tod's front door

This is the largest of many entrances to a badger sett in Breech Wood, near where I live. I like the sweep of the "front drive" showing where the badgers drag away the debris of loose earth and fallen leaves each night when they emerge. The tree roots even supply a structural "lintel" over the top of the entrance giving great support! to the roof! These badgers are lucky really as they live within the military firing range so human passers-by are few and far between other the soldiers who are far too busy to interfere with them. I guess it gets a bit noisy some days, but I suppose they're used to it.
Interesting shot. Badgers are common around us, but sadly the only indication of this is the number of traffic accident victims alongside the road.

What a story, could make a children's book

Interesting picture. I know there are some badger 'families' in the forest opposite our house.

Great shot and title!

@shepherdman - yes it's a shame that so many are hit by cars. Here in Somerset many setts have been part of the controversial badger cull - fortunately this particular sett is outside the cull zone.

@jomo - Beatrix Potter's Mr Tod wasn't a very pleasant character but the story still seems to entrance children

@gijsje - do you ever get them come in your garden? They can be a nuisance because they root around and make holes everywhere :)

@rickster549 - thanks Rick. Badgers are interesting characters even though they can cause trouble!

@loweygrace - thanks. I always think of the infamous Mr Tod that Beatrix Potter created when I see them

No, I'm glad they don't come in our garden, rabbits do!
