The Reverend Wilbert Awdry, famous for his stories of Thomas the Tank Engine died in Rodborough, Stroud in 1997 (aged 85). Before he died he commissioned this stained glass window for Rodborough Parish Church, unfortunately he died before it had been finished.
According to the church "Wilbert’s chosen themes were: The spiritual significance of everyday object; Childen; The four elements; Caring for others; “Thomas & Friends".
I'm sure we all have memories of his lovely train stories, not forgetting the fat controller.
