Thought I would make my picture today have a connection to another old English proverb, although this one may have made it to other places around the world. The phrase is "It's water off a ducks back".
You may have noticed that I have had to use a Coot instead, mainly because the flipping ducks went AWAL, (Absent without Leave), oh that's another saying from military service when someone goes on holiday and doesn't return to barracks, the have gone AWAL.
Back to the Coot and the phrase, it means you told something to someone and they just ignored you. For example: "I've told him that he's heading for trouble, but he doesn't listen - it's just water off a duck's back".
Right - now what's happened to those flipping ducks, they're driving me Quackers.
Nicely captured (it's the ducks loss that they weren't around to be photographed) It's interesting info about the phrase. I've heard it before but never knew exactly what it meant!
Lovely shot Heather - Fav I saw a few ducks in a field when I went to Sainsbury's this afternoon because I went to Biggleswade and it's near the river. They were running one way together and then another way as I think they were trying to escape the VERY heavy showers we were having at the time - poor little things!
It certainly is water off of this coot's back! Great detail..so nice to see a close up of one - they have a very interesting bill. We don't have these old coots around here.
