I had a walk around the town of Painswick, known as The Queen of the Cotswolds. I admit I was searching for geocaches and there was one at this historic site next to the parish church.
This is the medieval town stocks and are very rare and known as Spectacle Stocks. Most ancient stocks you put your head and hands through, but with this one your ankles are locked in place and you sit on a big slab, where rotten vegetables were thrown at you, hence my title of "Lock, Stock and Marrows". Almost a good name for a film.
The stocks were placed in this spot around 1840 and were used for public humiliation for local transgressions, they are not only found in UK but were also used in America. Thankfully they are not used today or perhaps I could be in them for the mischief that I sometimes get up to, anyway my ankles are too thick for these.
The history is great. I like how you processed this photo. Even not knowing what it actually is, the photo has interesting lines, etc.
One of the things my Mum always complained about after we emigrated to Canada was "Don't they have marrows in this %$% country!"
Love the title.
@philcameron59 Good thinking Phil, the fat were never humiliated then, well not until I put a lot of weight on and then it starts, thanks for your comment and Vinney Jones link.
